Property Overview

We are located about 14 miles south of Hilo and 300' from the ocean. As you enter the front door you are greeted with a lovely view of the atrium, swimming pool and backyard. The atrium serves as the dining room and has green plants all around. The kitchen and guest bedroom are on one side of the atrium and master bedroom and living room are on the other.

The master bedroom has a new king size mattress called Premier Hybrid by Copper, Cushion Firm, purchased April 25th, 2016. It has 8' of sliding glass doors facing ocean. And the large bathroom boasts an outdoor shower.

The living room has a new 55" tv and the wireless router is located here. It has a sliding glass door looking out to the backyard but we usually keep it closed as it faces west. And also has double French doors opening into the atrium.

The kitchen has granite counters, black appliances and a door opening to the driveway. In addition to the microwave and coffee maker there is a blender, waffle maker, crock pot, French press, and deep fryer. We keep some staples in the pantry and seasonings in the spice cabinet.

The guest bedroom has a queen bed, 8' of sliding glass doors, and a desk and chair. The 2nd bathroom has a shower and the washer and dryer are located here.

The swimming pool is quite large, 34' by 17.5'. There is a nice big stone deck and a covered lani. The 3rd bathroom is located here.
The property is surrounded by swaying palm trees. It is very private with 4' walls topped with 2' decorative cement panels. And we have added a large, deep hot tuyb!

Near the front door is a spiral staircase that goes up to the observation deck.
Our large covered atrium serves as the dining room. There is a table and 6 chairs for dining with an outdoor feel, yet is mostly enclosed.

Unfortunately, this stay fell well below expectations.Upon check-in, we found three dead cockroaches in the unit. This suggests either the cleaning was not thorough or the unit had been cleaned well before our arrival, neither of which is acceptable. The host also provided instructions about electricity pricing, including being told not to use the dishwasher between 5–9 pm and restrictions on dryer use. As a guest, utility costs should not be something I need to manage or worry about during a vacation. If energy costs are a concern, the unit should be priced accordingly rather than placing behavioral restrictions on guests’ daily routines.Communication was another major issue. The hosts were slow to respond on multiple occasions, sometimes taking several days. A question I had about check-in was not answered until two days into our stay, which is especially frustrating when timely communication is essential. Finally, I left a sweater behind in the unit. I am completely certain of where it was left, yet the hosts reported that housekeeping did not find it. Unfortunately, the item was not recovered, which erodes trust.Overall, between cleanliness concerns, inappropriate restrictions, poor communication, and the missing personal item, I would not choose to stay here again.

What a beautiful house and location. The pool was AMAZING! 5/5 stars. Only thing that happened was the hot tub was broken. Owner tried to get a part to fix it but hey this this the big island puna. Nothing happens fast there. Did not really effect our stay as the pool was 87 deg even at night. Will definitely stay again!!

The house was lovely, and the pool was perfect. The kitchen, bathrooms, etc., were extremely well equipped and supplied. It was difficult for me to understand the layout from the pics, but it works quite well with two wings, a central atrium, and nice outdoor space. There are bugs inside, regardless of how clean you are (roaches), typical of this area. The primary bedroom bed is set very high, so if you have any physical difficulties climbing into it might be a challenge. The host asked us to do extra chores (plant watering) after we had confirmed.Overall, though, it was a great stay.

We just loved staying here. We loved the pool, the view, the location, the arrangement with outdoor dining and more. This is our 4th time in this neighborhood and this is our favorite home. We visited many local attractions and restaurants and always enjoyed returning to this home.

The owner was great - very communicative and responsive. She notified me that the AC in the master had gone out, the day before our arrival. When I advised her that was an issue due to my husband’s sensitivity to heat, she pulled off a miracle and had the AC replaced before our arrival. I read all reviews very carefully before booking a vacation rental. There were a few things that I wish I had known about the home that just didn’t work for us, which are probably not a problem for others:The pool and hot tub didn’t have rails or a ladder, so difficult to maneuver with my bad knees. The outdoor shower in theory sounds great, but it was too cold to use in the mornings. The mattress in the master was fantastic, but the bed was so high it was difficult to get into. I’m 5’8, so not short but I had to get a running start to jump on the bed. The closets had a ton of the owner’s items which limited the space available to hang our items. There was a drum set in the living room that took up a corner of the room. The written instructions, rules and signs, including instructions to water some of the plants made it feel more like we were housesitting than paying for a rental. This is a beautiful home and a fun rental for the right people. Just not for us.

Palm Tree Paradise is more than we ever expected! The online pictures don't do it justice. The home is very well stocked with all the basics and comforts of home. The backyard is paradise! The neighborhood is clean and friendly. We would definitely return to this home in paradise!

Thank you Steph for a beautiful stay! The host was super responsive & communicative. They provided everything needed and then some. Lots of good info in the house binder & via messages. Yes! to restaurant suggestions - Ning's Thai & Kaleo's also Kohala coffee - all in Pahoa. We were delighted with the layout of the home, especially the outdoor covered atrium where we gathered mornings over breakfast & coffee to plan the day -- and then again in the evening to play games & just be together. The pool is delightful - floats provided! Observation perch was great for sunrises & whale watching (we saw spouting!) And we loved the outdoor shower off main bath which really let us know we were in Hawai'i. We loved our stay & would definitely book again.

Beautiful home with ocean view! Very clean and kitchen had everything you might want to cook. Backyard was an oasis! Quiet and peaceful area to explore east side of island. The outdoor shower off the master was a highlight! Would recommend to anyone. Bedrooms are well separated from each other for separation of space.

Walking through the front door and seeing that beautiful atrium felt like walking into paradise! Our stay here was by far the best property we've stayed at. And that is saying a lot because we've been to the island's 7 times now. This place is super secluded and private. It is stocked with everything you would need and then some in a house. We enjoyed every minute spent here and hope to return soon. Thank you Stephanie for allowing our stay. We will forever cherish our momories here!

This place is amazing. Very private and quiet. You have a very private pool in an absolutely gorgeous back yard, located in a quiet friendly neighborhood. Ocean view from the eagle nest on the roof of the covered lanai. Unique, beautiful, well-appointed home. AC in the bedrooms, outdoor shower in the master bedroom is fantastic. Stephanie is very easy and fantastic to deal with. David & Deb

We appreciated the well-appointed kitchen (it has most every kitchen appliance and tool you could possibly need, including the pineapple core cutter-outer if you want to make a fancy home-made tropical drink) Orchids and palm trees!

The property was wonderful. Very private and quiet. The gardens are lovely and the layout of the house is unique. My sons and I loved the pool and the lanai. We’d have dinner or breakfast out on the lanai. Definitely will stay again. Hilo is the only place for stores and places to eat and that was a 25 minute drive. We bought food from Walmart and cooked at the house.

This vrbo was amazing! I’ve never seen a house quite like it. You walk in the front door, directly into an open atrium & then the beautiful backyard full of plants, flowers, and fruits! Not to mention the beautiful pool and hottub. The house is split into two both sides include a bedroom, one with the kitchen, the other with the living room! Both sides well stocked with everything you could need for your stay indoors or outdoor beach activities. Highly recommended!

We stayed here in June of 22, and had been dreaming of coming back every since. We love this house so much we simply refer to this house as "Stephanie's place" and talk about it as if it's our own family's vacation house. The pool is incredible, the landscaping is beautiful, and to our glee we found out that Stephanie has added a hot tub!!! You can see the ocean from the crows next and being that it's just across the street, you can walk over and take it all in. We saw a family of sea turtles playing in the water while rays were floating around the bottom. We also saw the most beautiful parrot fish while admiring the turtles and rays. The Big Island is such a magical place, and Stephanie's place is the perfect spot to soak it all in and recharge. We hope it won't take us two years to get back again. Thank you for sharing your palm paradise with us.

This was our eight visit to the Big Island, but our first time staying at Palm Tree Paradise, which is now where my husband and I plan to stay every time we want a romantic getaway! You have a very private pool in an absolutely gorgeous back yard; located in a quiet, friendly neighborhood; ocean view from a covered lanai perched on the rooftop; unique, beautiful, well-appointed home; AC in the bedrooms!; outdoor shower; close to amenities; two-minute walk to stunning trails along the ocean; super-great host... I mean, what more do you need? We are already planning our next stay. THANK YOU for this place! It is the dream-come-true respite we all need! ---Mahalo from Ann & Tim

The pictures of this home definitely don't encompass how incredibly well Stephanie designed, maintained, loved and cared for this place. I mean wow. From the driveway entrance you are in a lovely large and well stocked kitchen with big windows and a view of the gorgeous backyard and the serene sitting area between the two bedroom areas. It felt so private and like no one else was around. I can't tell you how many times my husband and I looked at each other and couldn't believe we were able to stay there. The observation deck was a great place for watching the ocean and coffee. The pool and hot tub were an incredible bonus and swimming at night was a whole new world there! Even in the rain it was the coolest experience! The outdoor shower in the master bedroom side of the house had me a little nervous about privacy but let me tell you, no one is peeking except the lizards 😂 it felt like one big luxury shower with an open skylight and beautiful plants! And omg the plants!!! The backyard was insanely lush, the flowers were gorgeous, and Stephanie was so kind to allow us to pick some limes from her many fruit trees! They were the best limes I've had in a long long time! The bedrooms were clean, well stocked with pillows and sheets and towels. Stephanie was quick to respond to questions and so kind to extend our stay when we decided to extend our own trip! Thank you so so much and we hope to be able to come back soon! Mahalo and Aloha!

We loved it!!! Entry is through the open atrium between the 2 main house buildings and leads to the pool and backyard. I bet it took us 15 minutes to even get in the house because we were exploring the beautiful yard. All the plants and herbs and fruit! And the pool toys! Everything was clean and instructions were clear. Host was great! The beds were comfortable and the sheets were heavenly. Pool/beach towels are provided which was nice. Very homey and very comfortable. Make sure to walk to the cliffs across the street.

The pictures don't begin to convey the serenity and beauty of Stephanie's house. Open the front doors and you are in an oasis of trees, surrounded by birds and crashing ocean waves. The pool is gorgeous. I loved the outdoor shower! All the amenities are there and the home is so comfortable. It was just my husband and I, but it would be great for 2 couples. A short walk away are miles of trails. The house is a bit off the beaten path, but Kaleo's Bar and Grill is about 10 minutes away. A fantastic spot to relax and enjoy.

We loved our stay! Very private, beautiful pool, and great hot tub. Perfect for a couples getaway! It was a few things we notice about the property. The water shut off for about 30 to 60 mins each day. We were in the shower and had to wait. This impacted our days. One of the umbrellas by the hot tub is shredded. Unable to use. Overall we enjoyed our stay. Thank you so much for sharing your property!

When I say the pictures are not an accurate representation, I mean that when you get there you will be very pleasantly surprised! Absolutely stunning property. Gorgeous! Super quiet neighborhood except for the wildlife. The frogs were doing their thing all night which added to the magic of this place. The only reason I gave 4 stars on the cleanliness was because the ceiling fans needed dusted. Other that that everything was awesome. Very well appointed which was very nice. We left and went to the other side of the island to a resort condo which was not well appointed at all. Didn't even have salt and pepper?! Anyway loved this house thx for having us! 🌺

Loved the pool and the garden which displays such an individual touch. (Nothing corporate here!) The outdoor (but covered) dining table between the two sides of the house allowed us to be OUTSIDE even though it was pouring rain for a couple of days of our visit. WONDERFULLY well-equipped kitchen for a couple of us cooks. (Although, oddly, no tea kettle--one of us is English :- ), Actually well-equipped house--there were even Christmas decorations (we were there for Christmas)! We loved the layout (I think Stephanie should include a floorplan in her photos) which meant that there was a LOT of privacy for each of us. Close to "Secret Beach" with its hundreds of sea turtles!! Comfy living room (another picture request?) although we didn't spend much time there. Stephanie was SO responsive and accommodating---answering all our questions about where to find this or that in the house. I'm dreaming that we can return someday...
