Mele Kai overlooks the sunny Southern Coastline of Kauai. This special property is situated in one of the rare spots on Kauai where you are able to view the sunrise and the sunset in Poipu. Enjoy the warm breeze, the spectacular 180 degree ocean vistas with sea turtles, whales, dolphins, seals, and much more. Sleeping accommodations: Queen bed in all bedrooms. Twin daybed in the 4th meditation room, and single folding futon.
Beautifully designed and decorated, Mele Kai is a two level, Kauai vacation home. Relax in the spaciousness of 3 bedrooms + den and 2.5 baths. Barefoot around on bamboo wood floors. Put your inner chef to work in the fully stocked cooks kitchen. Chill out with air conditioning and cable TV. If you must stay "connected", there is complimentary high speed WIFI and phone service to the continental US and 39 countries. Mele Kai features the finest vacation amenities available. Beach Gear provided includes: beach towels, chairs, umbrella, and a cooler.
The upper level has stunning ocean views of Mahaulepu and Shipwrecks Beach from the living room, the lanai sunroom, and the primary bedroom. The primary suite, along with the breath taking view of the blue Pacific and the south shore coastline, has access to a private lanai. Sliding shoji doors separate the master bedroom from the living area. There is a luxurious black granite bathroom with double shower and double sinks. The upstairs living room area offers an open floor plan, with an attached cooks kitchen, and BBQ grill on the adjacent lanai. Watch the waves as you relax or dine at home. There is also an upstairs guest bathroom.
The entry level of the home enjoys 2 bedrooms both with ocean views and access to a house wide hardwood lanai with Adirondack furniture for lounging. Also conveniently located on the ground floor is the "meditation room" with a twin daybed, folding single futon, bathroom and laundry room.
Mele Kai is steps away from world famous Brennecke Beach and Poipu Beach Park (voted one of the best beaches by Travel America) to the west and a short walk to Shipwreck Beach at the Hyatt Regency to the east. Enjoy nearby shops and award winning restaurants. The dining in Poipu is the best on the island.
Find out why Kauai is nicknamed The Garden Isle. Visit the Spouting Horn, the National Tropical Botanical Gardens Allerton Estate and McBryde Gardens, and the Kadavul Hindu Temple. All are a short drive away.
If you prefer more active adventures in paradise here are some suggestions: Golf at the Poipu Bay Golf Course (home of the PGA Grand Slam of Golf), surf at Poipu Beach, charter a fishing or sail boat, tour Waimea Canyon (the Grand Canyon of the Pacific), drop into the art galleries of Hanapepe for the Friday night art walk, tour the Kauai chocolate farms, visit the coffee plantation, hike the Na Pali coast, zipline Koloa, tube down the plantation canals, horseback ride on the beach, island helicopter tour. You can design the perfect vacation as the opportunities in Poipu are limitless.
After a day of exploring, you will have worked up an appetite. The local farmers markets will offer free samples of some of exotic fruits and vegetables you have ever tried, including breadfruit, soursop, low acid pineapples, coconuts, lychee, rambutan, jackfruit, etc. Your taste buds will come alive in Poipu!

Kitchen was fully equipped. Air conditioning worked like a charm. Plenty of hot water. Great location. Watched whales from the deck. Plenty of beach equipment and towels.

Island weather is unpredictable and we were there during the tsunami warning, but management was communicative and helpful to visitors. Much appreciated. The small room with the futon was perfect for my teen son, but we pieced together some linens to make the bed, a full set of extra linens would be helpful for that room. We had plenty of towels for bath and beach. The beach chairs, umbrella and mats were such a treat. LOVED the porches morning and night! Thank you for sharing the house with us.
Pros: House has a lovely vintage vibe. The views were vast and lovely (possibly being altered by new buildings being built across the street). The sleeping areas on the lower floor stayed very cool. The kitchen is small, but fully stocked. The beach chairs were new. Cons: The a/c was not working on the top floor upon arrival, we made adjustments to sleep in a different location. The property management was prompt, but the number of issues was notable and disruptive to our stay. The last night of our stay, the air conditioner was not working again. Also, there is not a pull out couch, it is a futon.

Wow, what a beautiful place to stay with family. Plenty of room and amenities for all of us. The views were spectacular from all of the rooms and so easily walkable to the beaches. Thank you for sharing this wonderful place with us.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This rental was just ok for me. The Pros were it was clean, good location, and pretty views. The cons were the lack of privacy. The main master bedroom just has a sliding door that lets in light and the walls don’t go to the ceiling. So if anyone was up in the kitchen or living room it woke you up if you were sleeping in there. The other problem was the bathroom doors had slates and spaces so you could see out into the hallway or bedroom while you were in the bathroom. So it never felt like you were alone in there. For a girls trip it was not ideal at all. Then one of the bedrooms just had a futon instead of a bed. Overall it had its good qualities but I wouldn’t stay here again.
Great location and beautiful views of the morning sunrise. Though we had some serious rain and wind, the accommodations were very comfortable (and dry!). The proximity to the beach was nice as we enjoyed our time walking on the beaches. The open wall to the main bedroom took some getting use to, but we easily adapted to this space. It's a beautiful location.
Our family of six has vacationed over Christmas in Kauai for a number of years now. This is by far one of our favorite places we’ve ever stayed! All of the check-in instructions were emailed to me in advance of our stay so we could go directly to the house and get situated when we arrived. The house was extremely clean and well appointed, which was wonderful! There was space for our teenagers to spread out & my husband and I enjoyed drinking coffee while watching the sunrise from the enclosed lanai. It was a quick walk to shipwreck beach, which our older kids enjoyed, and an equally quick walk to Brennecke’s beach, which our youngest, who is eight, loved to boogie board at. We are already making plans for a future visit at this house!

A great place to stay. Wonderful views in a great neighborhood. Close to beaches. Property accurately described. Beds were very comfortable and kitchen well appointed. Property manager/owner responsive. The doors aren’t solid, they’re all wood slats, including the bathrooms. You can’t really see anything but you can hear everything.

We had an absolutely perfect stay at Mele Kai! Such a spacious lovely home with gorgeous views. Quick response from the staff for any questions and a beautiful walking path very close by. One thing to be aware of if traveling with kids, the lower bedrooms are not overly sound proof with the slatted doors but we made it work! Would absolutely stay again.
