We had a fantastic stay at Jim and Terry's Ohana house. beautiful property in the Captain Cook area... well landscaped and perfect view for the meteor shower. the hosts were very helpful with great suggestions for food and sightseeing. i really enjoyed hearing the coqui frogs sing me to sleep and the roosters wake me up! close to great snorkeling and kona. everything was clean and there were many amenities in the kitchen and bathroom that helped us out during our stay. beach gear also available to borrow. the kitchen had a toaster oven and microwave as well as coffee maker, fridge and freezer. i would come back here anytime!
We had a wonderful stay! The host was responsive, welcoming, and truly thought of everything. The kitchen was very well-stocked, which made cooking so easy. The location is perfect! Close to Captain Cook and 2 Step Beach, which is hands down the best snorkeling on the island. We also loved the outdoor shower surrounded by jasmine-scented flowers—it was such a relaxing way to end each day. Would absolutely stay here again!
Everything was great. Our host was very nice and helpful and the place was very cute and well kept. We had a great time and recommend it strongly.
Kitchen was fully equipped for a hotel room. I was led to believe it had a working television and some sort ofocean view, and it had neither. Maybe my fault but it seemed like the pictures were misleading and it was the size of a hotel room with a little kitchen. Down a very steep dark road you would never find it at night. I would pass.
The little cottage was the perfect place for us to come home after a day adventuring. The kitchenette had just enough supplies for us to be able to cook some meals in, which was a huge help! We had a great time!
I loved the location ,Jim was a great host.the place 2as very clean and comfy
Outstanding! Very comfortable unit with everything you need. The hosts were helpful and friendly. They directed us to a really nice reef to explore nearby. Their recommendation for breakfast was awesome! The location overlooking the ocean was breathtaking. We enjoyed everything about our stay here.
Jim was very kind & accommodating— allowed us to use some boogie boards for the beach & even offered more! Allowed a bit of an early check-in as we were out and about that day for quite a bit. The property is GORGEOUS. Even ran into a small problem on our end & Jim was very laid back & not worried about it. Highly recommend and wish we could have stayed for later.
Stayed for a few nights during a longer stay on the island. We wanted a place outside of the main towns and near snorkeling and this was it! Super close to amazing snorkeling in Honaunau Bay and Kealakekua Bay. Easy access to Kona and the southern part of the island, coffee farms, and other great places. Jim was an amazing host, had great insight and is a genuinely great guy. Highly recommend! And the fresh limes and fruits from the property are an added bonus!
Our stay at the Pineapple Patch cottage was a wonderful experience. The location was beautiful and we loved to have a quiet place to come back to after adventuring around the island! Would recommend a visit to this lovely place if you like quiet and beautiful views.
Clean, layed out as described, very helpful owner, excellent communications. The place has everything one needs for a short stay such as ours.
The place was fantastic!!! Jim was so accommodating, and Kona & Bennie did a good job of ensuring we were always welcomed back when we returned from our daily adventures! I cannot do justice to describing the place and give it my highest recommendation!!!
This vrbo home has tons of positive factors:-very quiet neighbourhood -very close to
We enjoyed our 4 day stay. Lots of privacy, clean and Jim and Terry were so accommodating. Loved sitting out on the patio surrounded by flowers. There is a beautiful view of the ocean from one side of the driveway and sunsets on the other. Lots of beautiful birds. The coqui frogs were loud at night, but beautiful calling to each other. Beware of the steep road leading to their driveway. I agree with other reviews that advised not going for the first time in the dark. We were thankful we followed their advice.
The place was fantastic! Jim was amazing and communicated prior to arrival. Great location and the place was very clean.
Jim and Terry’s
The property is located a few minutes away from the best snorkeling destinations on the island making it easier to snorkel in calm morning waters and beat the crowds. The propery is beautifully landscaped and with vreathtakubg views from the property. Jim is a great host, and so are his two friendly dogs, Kona and Ben. We really enjoyed our stay and recommend this place!
Would definitely recommend to friends visiting the area. Private cottage on a beautiful and quiet property.
We stayed three nights in the Pineapple Patch Cottage and we couldn't have picked a better spot for our time on the west side of the island. Each morning found us sitting at the patio table enjoying a fresh brew of Kona coffee. The cottage is simple but very homey and has what you need. And Jim is a wealth of information about the island. After being out all day seeing the sights-the Painted Church, the Peace Garden, Kaloko-Honokohau national historic park, many beaches, drives, views and cafes-we returned to grill our dinner and enjoy a bottle of wine. We're not fans of big fancy hotels. If you want to see Kailua-Kona like a local this is the place for you!
Quick two night stay and really enjoyed our visit. Everything listed and described on listing was accurate. Thank you Jim, great spot!
Nice hosts, nice property... works well for us
This cottage is such a gem for one or two people. We really enjoyed staying here. The hosts were very nice and helpful with any questions we had both prior to our visit and during our stay. The place was super clean, the bed was comfortable with lots of different pillows for different likes and the hosts had so many items to use that one might need. The kitchen had a coffee pot and they even had some kona coffee in a sealed plastic container for us to use. We are snorkelers so we really liked the outdoor shower to rinse off our gear and to clean off without having to use the shower inside. They even had shampoo, conditioner and body wash outside for the shower (hot water too). The location was south of the airport in the "country" but close to the ocean with great scenery. The best snorkeling place was right down the road (where the parking was for the trail head). The hosts were very nice and if you book they send you so much useful information about the area and places to go so you can plan ahead. We really liked that. We recommend the free coffee tour with Greenwell Coffee, it's very informative with samples afterwards. If you like pizza, in the nearby town of Captain Cook, Black Rock Pizza is good (and we are from Chicago). Highly recommend you stay here, especially if you want to get away from the city. So peaceful! By the way, the dogs are greeters and sweethearts. We really didn't see much of them after we got the initial "hello". We would definitely stay here again.
Had a great stay! Cottage was so comfortable and equipped with everything you need to have a very enjoyable stay. Beautiful property. Super clean and perfect spot for a stay.
My husband and I stayed for several days, and wish we could have stayed more. The accommodations are lovely, exceptionally neat, and our hosts clearly put a lot of thought into helping their guests have a fabulous stay. Because our visit was brief, we didn’t have the opportunity for many things, but we appreciated the local area knowledge and recommendations from our hosts. The cottage is nicely decorated and well stocked with anything we could need, the bed comfortable, and the quiet of the area was a valued respite. Communication was great and we felt very welcome. We loved this area of the coast and this property, and are resolved to return soon. Thank you!
We greatly enjoyed our days at this cottage in coffee country. The hosts were readily available with information and suggestions. We’ve been at this location several times now to enjoy peaceful days. It’s a perfect base from which to launch island explorations. We’ll miss the froggie chorus chirping us to sleep. Highly recommended for our needs.
This was our first time on the big island. We stayed at the cottage the week of Christmas and it was awesome! Off the beaten path and very quiet and night with a great view of the sunset. The owners, Jim and Terry, were very friendly and helpful. The doggos were superb! Highly recommend!
This was a great place, a separate private little cottage, which was perfect for what we wanted. The location was convenient to some wonderful hikes and local restaurants. The property is lovely, there's a cute orchard and a view of the ocean. The cottage was clean and comfortable and incredibly well equipped. Our hosts were very friendly and welcoming. We would absolutely stay again if we have the opportunity. Definitively recommended!
We loved this little room, felt like a hotel! The host and his dogs were very welcoming and inviting. I was impressed by the amount of information that the host put into his welcome book. Tons of recommendations for food and activities! We found that very helpful!
had a fantastic time at jim and terrys ohana house ..i was there for the geminids and the dark skies were on point! house was as cute as can be, and there was a parking space.. i was able to pick some oranges from behind the house, and got all kinds of adorable attention from their two dogs kona and bennie. location was great as a starting point for the shaka guide tours i had downloaded, and jim had all kinds of locals only suggestions that gave me a next level immerse experience. thanks so much Jim for sharing your place and your time with me, answering my questions and giving great suggestions! i will definitely be back.
Directions were clear and easy to follow. I do recommend a fu)y daylight arrival. The cottage was spotless but not stuffy. The frogs tended to take every other night off. They are loud, and entertaining. The cottage and that whole area was beautiful. I highly recommend it
This is a beautiful property with very accommodating hosts and super sweet dogs. The picture on VRBO do not do it justice. I look forward to staying here again!
Great stay, once again. Thanks Terry and Jim!
The cottage was very sweet with all the comforts one would require for a very comfortable stay. The bed was excellent and the general location was pretty central to all of our activities. The dogs are super friendly and love attention. Overall the place was super clean and well maintained. We would definitely use this booking again. Thanks Terry and Jim.
Privacy is Great. Driveway is a challenge. Frogs are loud. Sunset view is spectacular
The place was immaculate. Had nice touches to cottage. Croaking frogs and steep road to access though.
Beautiful host and room was amazing. Location was great, just south of Kona. At night the bird songs were reminiscent of jungle living.
This is a very comfortable place in a beautiful area, with friendly, welcoming and very informative hosts who made sure we knew not only all about the property but also all the things to do and places to go around the area. Highly recommend!
Great place and just as represented. Cozy, clean and hosts amazing! Everything you need is there. Beautiful location!
Property accurately described. Hosts were spectacular. Plenty of supplies provided, more than expected. No surprise rules on arrival. Easy to get along with host, spot-on communication. Highly recommend this little pineapple patch. Wonderful stay. Friendly, and inviting.
Having this clean, comfortable, quiet property made our stay in Hawaii wonderful!
Jim had a beautiful little mother-in-law in a perfect location in captain cook. His instructions on finding the place were very detailed and helpful. His neighbor who was watching his dogs was so so friendly and gave us some great recommendations. The vrbo was clean and spacious for my boyfriend and I. Also has the cutest, nicest doggies! We defiantly felt right at home! thanks again for making our trip perfect!
We loved the cottage and enjoyed our stay. Very clean and well equipped in a nice and quiet area with beautiful views. Jim is a very nice person and he gave us many suggestions for snorkelling and hiking. Highly recommended!
Excellent and very scenic property. Unit was very clean and well-appointed - very comfortable. Hosts were very friendly and accommodating. Would definitely stay here again.
Beautiful additional unit to main home, cometely private, almost like a neighboring house. Very friendly host, room and bathroom were in like new shape
Nestled into the southern Kona coast in the Captain Cook community, we enjoyed breakfast and often dinner on our compact patio, midst the gardens of our hosts' home, catching a view of the mighty Pacific, below. The studio apartment offered everything we needed and more for our 10 day vacation. Snorkeling equipment, beach towels, chairs and umbrella were provided for our use along with a grill on the patio. Our hosts, Jim and Terry could not have been more accommodating. Gracious and responsive, they quickly dealt with our questions and needs. Reasonably priced and highly recommended!
Fabulous location. Not in the middle of the busy city, but close enough to get there. Peaceful/serene was exactly what we were looking for, & exactly what we got. Super friendly hosts that were very accomdating. (Decided to extend our trip at the last minute & luckily it was available.) 5 stars all around.
Jim and Terry were fantastic hosts and their property was a little slice of paradise tucked away from the super touristy areas. If I ever came back to Big Island, I would stay here again in a heartbeat!
We enjoyed this nice, out of the way place to relax away from all the tourist hustle - loved the outdoor shower and BBQ along with electric skillet for cooking - perfect for 2 people and Jim, our host, was super nice and helpful about where to go and what to see on the island!
The property was very clean and tidy. Only downside was acually finding the driveway. The owners description was correct but the house number wasnt clear on the main road/the shared driveway intersection.
Overall an enjoyable stay. Made good use of the orchard out back and really liked this part of South Kona. I would get a car with a little more clearance next time due to the steep driveway; we scraped the bottom of the Nissan sedan a couple of times at the top, but no damage. The hosts were pleasant to deal with. I have already recommended this listing to friends.
Very well appointed space- very clean, well decorated, and very comfortable. The hosts provided many amenities (such as a cooler, chairs, and snorkel equipment to facilitate adventures). Beautiful view.
We had a wonderful relaxing stay here. Hosts were great, everything was clean, functional, as advertised. Close to some of our favorite spots on the island. Beautiful view from the property (requires a 40 foot walk from the VRBO). Best to arrive during daylight as it could be difficult to find after dark until you know where it is.
The place was spotless and had everything I could possibly need. Jim was a great host. I highly recommend their VRBO!
We loved our nine days at this sweet, quiet cottage in coffee country. It was a perfect home base for exploring the island, near and far. We found the cottage to be as advertised, a clean well equipped, comfortable space… and the hosts welcoming, helpful. Based at this cottage allowed us to easily enjoy the area and learn about its historic communities. Ours was a highly memorable stay. We’d love to go back!
This was our 5th or 6th visit to the Cottage and we had another amazing time. The Cottage is always clean and inviting. It really is a great spot to relax, see local sights and to be in a local community to get a sense of life on this wonderful island. Thanks again, Jim and Terry!!
