"Kona Sunset House" on Walua: Breathtaking Ocean Views with Incredible Pool!

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The team was very helpful but we close to zero internet throughout out stay. While the team sent a lovely person to help us reset the router the service didn't work for the entirety of our 10ish day stay. Though they offered to have a person from the internet company come out days later they couldn't nail down a time which didn't work for us as we have young children that need to nap. The reality is that the house does not have high speed internet which was massively inconvenient as this wasn't a pleasure trip. My wife was on a work trip and had to spend most days at a coffee shop so that she could work.

Only issue was the slow internet, otherwise great

Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The home is in a nice residential area next to a walking trail and just a short drive to Kailua-Kona town. The outdoor deck offers beautiful sunsets over the pool and backyard, with ocean views. While the pool was unheated and a bit chilly, we still enjoyed it.However, some issues left a bad impression:- The check-in process was inconvenient, requiring an in-person meeting instead of keyless entry- Cleanliness was a concern—we were horrified to find our mattress pads and pillows covered with old stains of bodily fluids. When we sent a message with photos, management simply responded that they would "pass along" our concerns to the owner- Basic supplies, such as trash bags and detergent, were limited to a small starter pack, requiring us to purchase more. When we asked management for more, we were told per our contract that was all they would provide. This felt unnecessary given that we paid almost 7,000 for our stay. And why discourage guests from cleaning?-Communication from management was not always friendly, including a text threatening a fine for not bringing the trash can to the street, despite us being unaware of the requirement. After checkout, management asked if we had concerns we wanted to address before posting a review, which felt more like reputation management than genuine concern.Despite this, we enjoyed the location and views. These are easily corrected issues and if fixed, I would wholeheartedly recommend this home!

Easy to get to from the airport, and an (almost) central point to set up as the base to explore the whole island. Knutson team was very helpful. Met us at the house for check-in, and also checked in with us a couple of days later.

Great place for the Gmail

The house was good. The lanai view was amazing. The pool is OK. I would not come back again because you have to have an in person check-in.

Super place. Location, amenities, and view all 5 stars. Only suggestion is to replace the pots and pans (non-stick all thoroughly abused by people and scratched to death & are now toxic to use).

Especially love being right by the Walua Trail for early morning or late afternoon walks. The view from the lanai is amazing and it is nice to have a pool for when you are too lazy to drive to the beach. Was a perfect set up for kids.Great kitchen with new appliances. A grill for cooking outside. LOTS of beach equipment.The property management was great. Met us at check in to make sure to answer questions.The older couple who are the neighbors to the north are nice and put out extra fruit from their yard for people to help themselves, but the guy gets annoyed if there is noise on the lanai after 10pm. Don't blame him.Would definitely be my first choice of where to stay in Kona in the future!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kona Sunset House. The lanai and sunset views were amazing! Honestly, some of our most relaxing times were chilling at the pool, surrounded by all the tropical trees & plants; watching the birds and lizards. The only complaint was how warm the house would get from the sun light in the kitchen during the day and then it was difficult to get the house cooled down before bed (even with all the fans going).

The kitchen was fully supplied and we cooked several meals there. The living area was perfect and comfortable and the lanai was our favorite place to hang out. Although it rained for two of the three days of our stay, we did use the full-size pool which added to the whole relaxing get away experience. Although most neighbors were friendly, someone did leave a little note on our rental car, complaining about how I parked (in front of the house we were staying in???). A little irritating, but the rest of our stay was fantastic.

The view from the large lanai, surrounded by the properties foliage is unbeatable. The location in a quiet neighborhood is definitely a plus.The management company is incredibly on top of any issue that may arise.

We spent 90% of our time on the fabulous and huge lanai! We were able to cook all our meals in the well stocked kitchen, appreciated and used all the great beach gear, and loved the location. The very walkable neighborhood was beautiful. The kitchen light was out when we arrived, but the property management company took care of it promptly. Everything was clean and overall wonderful. My one suggestion would be to replace the very old refrigerator as we did have some food spoil because the fridge couldn’t keep cold on the very warmest days of our trip, and ice flies out of the dispenser when you try to use it. Fortunately, we just utilized the handy ice trays and bucket inside the freezer.It was too cold to use the pool more than once while we were there, but that’s just a matter of weather. I’m sure in warmer months it would have been amazing!
