Overall, the unit was reasonable. Good points - Good location near the main restaurant strip in Kailua. Great ocean view. Nice balcony off the main bedroom. Convenient parking next to building. “Community” BBQ was very clean and worked well (but somewhat inconvenient to use since it is not in the unit). Good selection of TV stations available - TV speakers do need to be replaced. Master bedroom A/C worked well. Good kitchen supplies (plates, appliances, pots/pans). Instructions were good. Bug/pest problem noted in other reviews appears to have been addressed - found only one dead cockroach during 7 day stay. ISSUES - 2nd bedroom mattress was terrible (very soft, collapsed to the middle). Main floor A/C was small, did not cool the room at all. Water pipes had a frequent, loud, aggravating squeal. Information requested by the management company was excessive/intrusive (trip information form). Have not been asked for that much information from any other vacation rental we have used.
Very old, a/c didn't work well. Roaches everywhere. Very loud as its an apartment complex for long term living. I would definitely NOT recommend this particular site. Overpriced for the actual apartment
The apartment is well located and have stunning views.
Nice condo! Great location for us as it was pretty central to all of the activities we were scheduled to do. Lots of local shopping and close to Costco and Walmart.
The location of the unit was convenient but the overall experience was much less enjoyable. The check in process was also straight forward and easily managed through all of it being either done via text or email. Where the visit went sideways was the experience in the unit. The experience in the unit was less than I had expected, I have stayed in Kona on several other occasions and previously owed a rental unit on the island. That said I am familiar with the rental process and taking care of guests. There is a disclaimer on the rental agreement related to 'pests and a tropical island' I knew this from my previous ownership of a unit so I managed my expectations appropriately. What I wasn't expecting were the following pest to be present in the unit Cockroaches, silver fish and another small pest occurrences through my stay. I experienced no less than 4 separate incidences of cockroaches, in the kitchen while making a meal, in a bag from shopping, in the bathroom and also found dead in luggage. While I understand these can occur but 4 different incidents while on a 7 day stay seems like there may be a problem. Upon check in in the second bedroom there were Silverfish pests on the pillows which we had switched out upon arrival after this discovery. Spoke to the property manager and was offered initially a rebate on my next stay and upon further inquiry they offered a 5% rebate off of the stay. I do not recommend staying in this unit.
The location was what we wanted: close to town. The unit itself was decorated nicely. However, we hardly used the small deck outside of the main bedroom since the living area was on the floor below. I am still confused about who was always contacting us: The ownership group or the local managed locally. We obtained the ckeck-in and out instructions which I printed out and took with us. The door code provided forgot to include the last key input and the WiFi info was completely wrong, even when I asked again about it. The local management team provided the correct info. When we checked in, we noticed a decent amount of cockroaches. We killed 6 in the first few days and missed some others. After that, we only saw one or two, but the one that crawled up inside my shirt when I was sitting on the couch was memorable. The VRBO site advertised this unit as having a dishwasher: there is not one; and the checkout instructions asked that it be started. Smaller issues: the ice maker trays had cells that leaked; their were only two cheap plastic wine glasses (I bought 6 stemless glass ones and the local firm said they would reimburse.); the small "non-stick" fry pan sticks badly; the A/C units were a must and kept us cool, but the main bedroom unit was noisy and located at the head of the bed; I got at least 4 emails/texts reminding me that checkout was at 10 a.m. (and to start the dishwasher!). There were one or two other small issues that add up. Won't be staying again.
This was a great property for our Hawaiian vacation. It was clean and in a nice location that allowed us to walk instead of drive into Kona to restaurants, bars, and shops. Having the lenai upstairs was not a problem because it gets you a nice view of the ocean. Having the AC in one of the bedrooms was very nice for the evenings, we didn't use the AC in the living room. The kitchen was nicely supplied with the needed garbage bags, laundry detergent, etc. There were a few basic spices, but no oil. If you had more than two people you may need some more glasses as commented by a previous reviewer. The rice cooker did not work so that should probably be removed. The only thing that we found was misleading is in the description it lists a dishwasher as an amenity, but there is not a dishwasher in the unit.
This is a modest property with a very nice location. A few minutes walk from Hugo’s, one of Kona’s best beach bars with evening entertainment (in our opinion), shopping, open air market and the Ironman start. Centrally located in Kailua Kona with short commutes to great snorkeling in South Kona and great beaches up the Kohala coast. Although we didn’t realize the only lenai was on the upper floor, outside the master bedroom, we adapted and enjoyed watching whales spout or breach daily while having morning coffee. If you pay close attention, you can even see the spinner dolphins periodically. Cleaning crew times were able to be adjusted so we could check out two hours past the normal time on our departure, which made the last day there much less stressful.
We really liked that there were two floors and plenty of space to move about. One recommendation would be to get more drinking glasses in the kitchen as there were only about three for the entire weeks stay, which was a bit strange. Other than that everything was well stocked. The snorkel gear and fins were not usable so maybe some improvements there could be made. Other than that the view was amazing and we appreciated everything that the condo had to offer.
Condo is as listed. Easy & safe walking distance to town/restaurants/beach. Worked out fine for our group.
