Aloha! Welcome to Kehena Moana. A beautiful Balinese style residence just steps away from the famous Kehena Black Sand Beach, the best swimmable beach in Lower Puna. Kehena Moana boasts ocean views from nearly any room, landscaped grounds with balinese stone carved statues and a large custom built home with 5 bedrooms and five bathrooms. Specifically built for large groups, this home is perfect for families and/or friends who are seeking a peaceful retreat surrounded the primordial beauty and adventure which Lower Puna offers. Directly across the street from the ocean, Kehena Moana is right in the middle of Puna's "banana belt" where warm, sunny days are the norm. Sit on our sundeck and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Pacific Ocean or drive a short distance to the amazing natural attractions on this side of the Big Island. Explore and soak in the sights that are unique to Hawaii. Nearby attractions include Volcano National Park with it's views of the Kilauea caldera and extensive hiking trails, Isaac Hale beach park with its new black sand beach and warm geo-thermal hot ponds where you can soak your worries away, Historic Pahoa town and it's rich plantation history and architecture of days past, 40 minutes from lovely Hilo town where you'll find shopping, restaurants and Hilo's world famous farmer's market where you can sample locally grown, fresh exotic fruits and vegetables from the Aina (land). The home's 5 bedrooms are private and well appointed with organic 100% cotton linens and towels. The 3 main bedrooms have a private bath while the 2 other smaller bedrooms share 2 full bathrooms. The main space is open concept kitchen/livingroom/diningroom and has great ocean views, a large sectional couch, large dining room table and a well appointed kitchen that provides anything you would need to cook your delicious meals with the fresh ingredients the island offers. Off the main space is our large sundeck which is perfect to gather and enjoy the ocean views. Our main attraction, Kehena Black Sand beach is only a 3 minute walk away from the front gate. Also known as "Dolphin Beach", it is not unusual to see spinner dolphins, green sea turtles and humpback whales during whale season (November-March)

Nice home . Great view .host not so nice
Our party was a total of 6 adults and 4 teens/children. There were plenty of rooms for us to sleep & we really enjoyed the outdoor spaces & the common room. It was hot/humid while we were there & although there were ceiling fans and some portable fans, it was still uncomfortable at times especially in the 2 upper rooms. There are sugar ants if you leave certain foods out. We put most of the food in the fridge. There are also geckos that roam around in the common area. We did not mind this. Our family loved the cats/dog on the property & they are friendly. Owners Caleb & Mark were responsive & welcoming. They live on the property in a separate home. The beach is clothing optional & both paths to the actual beach are a bit difficult & can be slippery. The surf is a little rough, but some in our party were able to get past the waves and enjoy a nice swim in clear water. We had 3 cars which we parked outside of the gated property. There was an incident where one of the cars was vandalized & the gas line was cut. Fortunately after that, we were able to park the cars inside the gate. I know this has nothing to do with the owners, but it was a bit of a hassle to have to return the rental & then deal with insurance during a vacation. We went to Hilo a few times & enjoyed shopping and lagoons there. Kahena is a more quiet side of the big island, but there is a grocery store not too far away. The kitchen had everything we needed. Beds were nice & plenty of towels.
We had an amazing stay! The property was spacious, clean, close to the beach and unique! It was perfect for what we needed and the hosts were very communicative!
