Property Overview
"Twin Hearts", a Kauai North Shore vacation rental homestay cottage, is a wonderful private one bedroom, one bath handcrafted rental accommodation located at the ocean end of our 7.6 acre Kauai North Shore estate and farm parcel. The handcrafted cottage features tons of privacy and a sweet hot tub, as well as close world class, white sand Kaihili-Quarry Beach, a scenic 15 minute walk, or quick 5 minute drive from your accommodation.
The travel accommodation industry has been dramatically changed. The COVID-19 pandemic, while it has abetted, has placed a greater importance on safety. At Twin Hearts, we understand this change. Vacation rentals are now the safest and most secure way to enjoy a Kauai vacation. We understand the importance or providing an alternative to crowded hotels or the risks of dining in jam packed restaurants. What better way to travel safely than renting your very own cottage on acreage!
Our guests, many of them repeat visitors, adore the cottage and leave us stellar reviews.
Our organic ethic precludes us from spraying any toxic pesticides, and while we deal topically and organically with any of the many pests that enjoy living in the sub-tropics, you must be prepared to possible encounter the occasional ants, or geckos, or even a cockroach or two. If that is bothersome, you may be better off renting at a different property that utilizes toxic pesticides.
This private cottage, which is fully screened, is an exquisite, architecturally interesting, sustainable redwood home with lots of special features and privacy, about 250 feet (and lots of hedges and trees) from our home.
The cottage is accessed via a completely private 250 foot long rolled gravel driveway from the paved cul-de-sac road.
The cottage is comfortably and tastefully furnished, island style, with a hand-carved king sized poster bed with soft cotton sheets in the bedroom, a lovely living room with comfortable new queen sofa bed, a tiled bathroom, and a full-on entertainment center with cable TV, DVD, and CD stereo. Furniture and furnishings are oriental and island-style, with some antiques and original art.
For those who enjoy using the internet, we offer high speed Spectrum WI-FI, by Kauai standards. We average 200mbs speed. Keep in mind that internet speed here is not necessarily the equivalent here of what you may experience, or become used to, in mainland urban areas. There is plenty of bandwidth for most visitors, and we encourage you to slow yourself down and relax into Kauai time. :)
As a special perk, the cottage now comes with a Tandem Kayak, complete with paddles, backrests, life preservers and car roof rack, perfect for jungle river adventures on Kauai's numerous waterways. That's WAY fun and easy, even if you have never kayaked before!
We also provide boogie boards to our guests, Some snorkel gear may be available, but we recommend arranging for snorkel gear rental to insure a proper fit.
There are laundry facilities and a full indoor bathroom, as well as a hot and cold outdoor shower for washing the sand off when returning from Kahili-Quarry beach, which is just down the road, or any other one of the 10 world class beaches nearby.
There are a myriad of world class beaches close nearby. Kahili Quarry Beach is within walking distance, or you may zip down with your rental car. Kalihiwai Beach and the trailhead to Secret Beach are just 6-7 minutes away. Also nearby are Anini Beach, Hideaways, Waiakalua (wanna be all alone on a tropical beach?) and the beaches of Hanalei Bay.
The scenic Kilauea Lighthouse is minutes away...
As a longtime farm family we welcome you to come enjoy our place. You may walk around the property as long as you follow 3 rules: 1) Do NOT stand below coconut trees 2) Do not approach any buildings other than your cottage, and 3) do not engage our workers in conversation. They love to chat, but we need them to work :)
As a long-time, nearly 40 year resident farmer, I offer private farm tours to parties of up to 4 in size, for $100 per hour. I can provide a brief overview in one hour, but a more in-depth tour can last for 1.5 to 2 hours.
Consistent trade breezes keep you cool and refreshed although, to be on the safe side, we have installed a decorative tropical ceiling fan in the bedroom.
The cottage is fully screened.
When looking at a map of Kauai, use the Kilauea Lighthouse as a locator- it is the northernmost point on the island, and your cottage is about 1.5 miles to the southeast. The location is convenient- close to restaurants, bakeries, 2 farmer's markets each week, and fun shopping. It is an easy drive further west to Princeville (10 minutes) or Hanalei (15 minutes) yet not far the other direction to the East and South sides and to Waimea Canyon on the West side.
Because many guests have found difficulty arranging a reasonably priced rental car (the BEST way to explore Kauai) at reasonable rates, we often offer a Ford Escape SUV to our guests. If this possibility sounds of interest please inquire, after you make your booking.
Twin Hearts is a legal, permitted "homestay", Class IV Zoning Permit Z-IV-2015-35, Use Permit U-2015-34, Special Permit SP-2015-12. These permits are extremely limited. Our TMK is (4) 5-1-005-015-0003.
So let's see... garden views, mountain views, private hot tub, acreage privacy, close beach proximity, laundry facility, wireless high-speed internet access, a tandem kayak, the option to rent a vehicle, and a stunning, affordable handcrafted cottage. Plus, it is a registered. legal, vacation rental. It doesn't get much better than this, especially at our low rental rates.. Come to Kauai and enjoy it in class at our private cottage!
Mahalo nui loa, e komo mai (Many thanks and welcome...)

The place is fantastic! Clean, comfortable furniture. Just enough to cook and serve meals if you want, but close enough to drive to great restaurant options in Kilauea and further if wanted. We did use the hot tub one cool morning and it was delightful. Outdoor shower is the bomb! So much water pressure, what a treat! The privacy and quiet were exactly what we needed. Bugs and geckos are a part of island life, but we had very little issues. The geckos we heard more than saw, but they are cute lil buggers. Ants were kept to a minimum by cleaning up food debris quickly and not leaning stuff out. We lost a few Mac nuts to the ants cause we forgot and left a closed ziplock bag on the table overnight lol.Chickens were the morning alarm, so earplugs are smart if you like to sleep in!! Glad it was winter and the sun wasn't coming up earlier than 6:30.The beach down the road was epic. Big sandy beach and not a lot of people. We felt the walk was a bit long for carrying stuff, so we opted to drive. Glad we did. We will be back, as this place checked all our boxes perfectly.
We just returned from a wonderful 1-week stay at Twin Hearts cottage in Kilauea, and it truly lived up to all the hype from other reviews. This handcrafted gem on the North Shore of Kauai is private, cozy, and surrounded by lush farm acreage, within short drive (or moderate scenic walk) to the beautiful Kahili-Quarry Beach. The king-size bed was comfortable, the kitchen had everything we needed for simple meals, and we spent evenings relaxing in the hot tub under the stars—pure magic - any night we had clear skies. The eco-friendly touches, like filtered water and non-toxic cleaning, made us feel good about our choice too.We agree with some past mentions of minor cleanliness concerns from years ago, but everything was acceptable during our visit—no issues at all. If anything, the only tiny downside was the occasional tropical bug and ants (hey, it’s Hawaii!), but that’s part of the charm. I felt like I was doing VERY fancy camping on a gorgeous tropical island! Overall, it’s a unique and peaceful retreat perfect for couples or small groups. We’ll definitely be back—highly recommend for anyone seeking an authentic Kauai experience! Stayed over Christmas 2025.
What a WONDERFUL place to spend our time on Kauai! This gem of a place manages to be both intimately private, yet close to the rest of the farm. The cabin itself is just perfect - big windows onto the garden with screens underneath so you get an unobstructed view. The bed is comfy, the living room spacious, and the kitchen has what you need for a relaxed stay. The hot tub is perfect at the end of a day of strenuous hiking, and the sheltered garden loungers and patio grill make the outdoor space as inviting as inside. The beach down the road is quiet, uncrossed and in winter when we visited it was one of the few North Coast beaches open for swimming. Bruce and his family were there when we needed to message them, but gave us our privacy throughout. We would love to come back - this place really exceeded our expectations!
Super private and close to the best beaches in Kauai
Not quite as private as the listing may suggest - you are right next to a farm full of workers on weekdays. The cottage is mostly sheltered away from any activity, though you can still hear it, and can be seen when driving in and out, and through a break in the trees, if at the right angle. When we arrived the workers were playing a game of softball (Friday evening) - nothing wrong with that just a bit unexpected. Also, the house has an issue with ants (lots of them) so be prepared to put all of your food in the fridge and get a few bug bites. We did, unfortunately find one cockroach, but I assume that to be an anomaly. Hot tub and outdoor shower are clean and AMAZING! Loved that and the stay overall was good. Great location for spending time in Kilauea or all over the island!Host (Bruce) is very kind and helpful! I needed to iron a shirt, but the iron was not clean. However, Bruce quickly handled the situation by bringing over a replacement, so that I could iron my shirt in time Thank you very much!
Absolutely delightful spot. Appreciated the Kauai recommendations provided in the binder as well as all the snorkel book and beach gear. Didn’t get to meet Bruce but he was an excellent communicator. Highly recommend!
Lovely private cottage well decorated and surrounded by greenery. Away from it all, but still close to all the good sights and activities of the north coast. Hope to return.
We had a great vacation at Twin Hearts. Thanks, Bruce , for your Aloha Spirit! Plenty of room in the comfortable and welcoming house. Kitchen is adequately equipped. Refrigerator, stove, microwave and coffeemaker all worked well. Bathroom was clean and plumbing throughout the home functioned very well. The hot tub provided plenty of heat and everything worked. Many books in the home library, as well as playing cards, cribbage board and jigsaw puzzles. Practice your evening search for light switches in the daytime The home is located within walking distance to Kahili Beach, where the river meets the ocean- absolutely beautiful! Anini Beach is a close drive and worth it. Tunnels and Ha'ena present a parking challenge - go early. Ke'e parking has changed. Must reserve a parking space. We took the shuttle bus into Ke'e from Hanalei instead. Not cheap , but worth it. The beach parking area and the surrounding grounds were upgraded in 2019. They did a beautiful job. Check it out online so you know the rules. Easy access to Kapa'a and beaches in that area.
The property is gorgeous and the location is central to the most beautiful beaches imaginable. The available car was sooo much better than waiting in line at the airport for a regular rental. The bed was very comfortable. The kitchen had most of what we needed but I would have liked to see a full sized coffee maker instead of a tiny two cup one but we drink a lot of coffee. There was only one kitchen towel so that was a little inconvenient but you’re in Kauai so you make it work! *additionally we would have appreciated a small amount of coffee and a piece of fruit or two so when there is a tsunami scare the minute you arrive, you don’t feel pressured to go out and get supplies as everything is shutting down in a hurry. The insect situation can be a bit extreme. It is a little difficult to prepare meals because you can’t really have your food on the counter at all for prep. Additionally if you go out and bring home take out, the ants will be in your boxes even in the car before you get back to the house so you have to hold it or take it in with you if you stop anywhere else on your way back to the house. The hot tub is not what we expected as it is a portable blow up tub which was different than what we had seen in the advertising but everything else about the surroundings is so wonderful that is was easy to focus on other things and still enjoyable to use. I would just call it what it is in the description. Overall we loved our stay and would definitely return.
Everything about this stay was perfect. Easy to get in, private, peaceful, heavenly abode. Will go back again and hope to stay for a much longer time. 4 nights was not enough. Hope to make it to a poker night some time in the future, or farm ball because that looked like a blast!
We stayed for two weeks and did some tourist stuff and also joined in on some local activities. The accommodation was wonderful. Mario was particularly helpful and checked in on us regularly to be sure all our needs were met. Fabulous time and look forward to returning!
This place was just right for us. Away from the busy. Central enough to get north and south. Equipped with all the beach needs. Quiet, secluded and peaceful.
Thank you for a most magnificent holiday
Nice peaceful place to stay with beautiful woodwork. The location was good with easy drives to all the nice beaches in the area. We enjoyed the portable hot tub after hiking all day. No AC as mentioned but that was never an issue, in fact we felt a little cool waking up some mornings. The house felt like you were staying in the rain forest which was nice. The housed felt a little smaller than it looks in the pictures but fine for 2 people. The dresser was filled with bedding-sheets blankets etc in every drawer and closet pretty taken up with things so not much room to put our clothes. Overall a nice and interesting place to stay while visiting the North Shore.
Unique hand crafted cottage and interior. Lovely bird sounds, flowers, plants and warm breezes.
It was advertised correctly as 600 s feet I just didn't realize how small that was, my error. No dresser space for clothes and limited closet space. other than that it was a nice getaway, very private and quiet.
Beautiful, pristine property close to incredible places to explore on Kauai's coast.
We loved this place from the moment we arrived. The location is incredible with a secluded beach thats a short ways away. The cottage was fully stocked with everything that we needed especially the kitchen (we love cooking). The water heater broke down one morning and bruce had it fixed super quick (thanks bruce!) The back yard is well maintained and very private. We had such a good time. We hope to return!
We were welcomed from the first day to the end of our stay. Bruce and Cindy were incredible host and made us feel at home. It was everything we had hoped it would be.
I can sum up this place and our stay with one word….. Magic It was everything we hoped to experience for our 43rd wedding anniversary. Solitary and private - but not isolated Beautiful interior that is built as an invitation to relax, decor and furniture wonderful. The breeze coming into our bedroom each night was like a tropical lullaby and the occasional rainfall added to the music. The outside yard and landscaping- well it felt like we were alone in a gentle jungle Dozens of flower varieties. Birdsong. Shaded and cool all day. Cute little hot tub which we took advantage of a few nights under the scudding clouds and moon and palm trees was wonderful Location was perfect. Minutes away from Hanalei and Princeville, botanical gardens, and eateries. We walked to Quarry Beach several times to watch the sun go down in quiet reverence Bruce very was cordial and helpful, a low key landlord ready to help but astute enough to give us all the space we needed If you want an experience and not a condo, an adventure not a crowded resort ….this is the place. Authentic and real and one of a kind Kevin and Caleen Beatty
This is our third time here! We love it and we call it our home away from home. It’s close to the best beaches in Kauai and we feel so comfortable and relaxed here.
Absolutely amazing. The owners are great. The property is beautiful. Its an oasis within itself. A cute little beach within minutes where you can swim in the ocean or in a cool pristine river. Well worth the stay.
We had a great relaxing time in this private cabin hideaway! So much better than a hotel room in one of those “resorts”. If you like relaxing in your own private place, then this is for you. Only negative was the weather, (a Kona low, bringing flooding rains) which kept us off the beaches for a few days.
Lovely private “cabin” with hot tub that was so appreciated after a couple of hiking days. The pick up and drop off at the airport ensured a smooth check in and departure.
check-in was a breeze, the cottage is well stocked with everything you need and in a great location. It was quiet and peaceful. I had a wonderful stay and would definitely stay here again!
So wonderful to be back after 17+ years. Such a lovely spot and great location. We hope to come back again but sooner!
The bungalow has everything you could ever need. Its secluded and quiet (except for the ever present Kauai roosters) and private. You can walk to the most spectacular secluded beach, where you can surf big waves and there's a place for kids to play in the gentle water. Bruce was a lovely host and his property and farm are glorious. I highly recommend!
