In general the house was great and as advertised. The jungle setting was awesome and furniture, bedding, appliances were all nice. The night time chirps by the coqui frogs were no joke and surprisingly loud. With that said, there were some aspects that made the stay rough for my family. When we stayed it was pretty warm (83 degrees) and humid, the fans helped but between that and the frogs it was hard to sleep. There were also a lot of geckos in the house which was kind of charming other than the little poops they leave everywhere. The area does have a hippie vibe to it so the beach was entertaining with a lot of nudity and pot smoking. All in all, my family had mixed feelings on this one but I could see how other people may not care as much. Would recommend but may not be for everyone.

We chose this lovely home because it is relatively close to volcanoes NP and Hilo, and because the multiple bedrooms worked well for 4 adults and two teens. The tropical jungle forest surrounds the property. It is a couple minutes walk down to a gorgeous black sand beach. The beach requires climbing down natural rock steps, not a problem for us but might be for some. The waves are very big here. The young adults/teens had a blast boogie boarding and playing in the waves, but they took a beating (worth it!) and are strong swimmers. The location is remote so we stocked up in Kona before driving out. The natural food store in Pahoa carried a little bit of everything and is nearby. In Hilo we enjoyed snorkeling at Richardson Ocean park. We would absolutely stay here again!

The house is beautiful, and the location felt perfect for us. We enjoyed relaxing on the second floor balcony (even doing a little astrophotography!), going to the nearby beaches, and taking day trips out to Hilo and the Volcanoes National Park! I couldn't have asked for a better home base. They also had a good stock of cookware, so we were able to cook most of our meals which saved us both money and travel time for food. This place was really a treat!

Amber was a great host. Very quick to respond. The house and hottub was great! Everything worked as it should and would make a great basecamp for large group. Total of 4 bed plus many futons and couches. As she says … make sure you have information like photo, address, and check in information downloaded or snapshot before you arrive. No cell service! Once inside the wifi was great even with all many teen-agers online :) Nice location to get away.
