Located in the center of historic downtown Hilo, Hawaii, this is a hosted TAR, well-appointed ,vintage, kama'aina BnB guesthouse, very open, airy, Polynesian environment with many curated Hawaiian artifacts and other collectibles, whimsical decor. Koa furniture and cabinets and stained glass throughout the house 1,000, sq. ft., completely private with full amenities. This is a family estate; host lives on property . Free covered parking and free Wi Fi. 500 mbps. Deluxe platform queen bed with air conditioning in bedroom.

Located l mile, walking distance to the old town featuring many restaurants, shops, bay front. A truly must stay oasis. 29 miles from active volcano and National Park. For golfers, the Hilo Municipal Golf course is just is 3 miles from rental. A perfect launch area for sightseeing . E Komo Mai...welcome. Hilo also coqui frogs. This is a house filled with many Hawaiian museum pieces which host wants to share. It is truly enchanting and a vintage Hawaiian residence.....check in is 3pm and check out is 11am

The host communicated very clear instructions, supplied everything we could possibly need for our stay, and had a couple special welcome snacks.
What a charming guest house! Super easy check-in and many delicious goodies including fresh fruit, cereal, snacks, etc., are waiting for you when you arrive! Every day we discovered another little treasure to admire and we felt extremely comfortable, like we were staying with family. Communication with Kawehi was flawless and we couldn't have asked for a better location. We wanted for nothing and highly recommend!!!

A True Enchanting Paradise in Hilo!Our first visit to the Big Island was made even more memorable by our stay at Hale Kawehi. Nestled in a local neighborhood, this guesthouse gave us the authentic Hawaiian experience we were hoping for. The home was spotless, beautifully maintained, and stocked with thoughtful touches—including snacks, food, and a fresh, sliced papaya waiting for us upon arrival.The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the natural cross-breeze from the large screen doors made the space feel airy and peaceful, especially in areas without AC. The garden was lush and vibrant, and we were surrounded by the soothing sounds of birds and nature throughout our stay.Communication with the host was seamless—she was warm, responsive, and truly welcoming. We couldn’t have asked for a better home base in Hilo. We’re already looking forward to staying here again on our next trip!
great place to stay
Beautiful house from the mid-1930’s filled with wonderful artifacts and Hawaiiana. Nice kitchen area for in home cooking - pots pans rice cooker etc- Comfynooks for relaxing- great wrap around deck with lounge chairs and a dining table! The garden is lush and creative. There are many cocqui frogs at night so if that bothers you, there is even ears plugs! Our only negative was that due to a plumbing issue my husband could not soak in the tub (for his degenerative disk) altho the shower worked fine.
Would definitely stay again! The house is so unique and we loved the decor. Wish we had more time to just stay and enjoy the space. Close to ocean, shopping, food. Thanks again for sharing your home! We had a great stay.

We arrived to find a beautiful plate of papaya and a fridge full of beverages for us to enjoy. Very charming guest house and kind hostess! Nice location for visiting the highlights of Hilo.

We stayed in Hilo during the third week of sept. The property was everything we had hoped for. When we pulled in there was a parking space right next to the entry so getting settled was a matter of minutes. Every room is full of interesting surprises. The space is large and gives you plenty of indoor and outdoor living. We absolutely loved the garden area and spent much of our time out on the deck next to it. This space is secluded and gives the feeling of being in a little private rain forest. Our stay was partly sunny with rain coming mostly in the evenings or during the night. This created a cozy sleeping environment with the sound of the geckos and soft rain. The bed is soft and the bathroom is close by. We enjoyed each room. There were litteraly hundreds of little pieces of Hawian history. Some spaces had the feel of a well desiged small museum. Our host Kawehi,was gracious and supplied us with unexpected pastries, and breakfast munchies. It was a pleasure to meet and talk with her. We want our vacations to feel like unique destinations.
