Property Overview
This is a Hosted Property.
Recently constructed and fully remodeled 700 square foot self-contained living space in a private, separate wing of the house. The bedroom and living areas are filled with light, looking out to gorgeous views of the three mountains - Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa and Hualalai. Enjoy the fully equipped kitchen, dining area, cozy reading nook in the living room, spacious bedroom with walk-in closet, brand new bathroom with walk-in shower, wireless internet and Smart TV (movies, tv shows and music channels). We recently installed A/C for those warmer summer months.
The teak bench in front of the cottage is a perfect place to sit and watch the clouds play over Mauna Kea. Out the back door off the kitchen, there is a new gas barbecue and table and chairs for dining or enjoying sunsets or the bright starry nights. There is also a storage chest full of beach chairs, boogie boards and snorkel gear for your use.
Our 3-acre property has a large house, recently remodeled to include the guest cottage at one end of the house. I live in a separate wing on the other end of the L-shaped home. The two living spaces are separated by a covered lanai with fencing and landscaping providing privacy for each dwelling.
I respect my guestsʻ privacy and enjoy my own. I am also happy to answer questions you may have to help you enjoy your stay on the island. I will be happy to steer you to my favorite restaurants, beaches, walking trails and island adventures.
We enjoy gardening and have planted fruit trees and many flowers that attract abundant bird life. I'm happy to share fruit that is ripe during your stay, including banana, lilikoʻi, mango, papaya, avocado, lemon and lime.
Situated on the 'dry side' of Waimea, we are half way between Kawaihae and Waimea town, ten minutes drive from both. The best beaches on the island are 10-15 minutes away.
Located at 1800 foot elevation, our days are most often sunny and warm with occasional island breezes. There are ceiling fans and air conditioning for additional cooling if needed. Temperatures cool down in the evening - perfect for a good nights sleep. Cardinals, doves, finches and other birds fill our quiet 3-acre property with song.

Great location close to resorts and restaurants. Clean and well appointed. Host repeadedly checked in to be sure we had everything.
I have stayed in Waimea many times and this was the perfect property for my wife and I. The house and amenities were exactly as advertised, the host (Catrinka) was amazing - communicative, thoughtful, with great advice on local places to hear music amd snorkel. We had a perfect Christmas vacation thanks to her - will definitely be back!
Great host. Comfortable, clean, quiet unit with a great bed and everything we needed. Convenient, free parking. Close to Weimea. Just a perfect spot for us. We would highly recommend this property and will very likely be back here. I'd give it 6 stars if i could.
Private and close to our favorite beaches. Would definitely stay here again.
The location is primo: slightly west of Waimea town, so easy 12 minutes to the beach and providing a lovely climate. The property itself is well maintained and all comforts are provided at the rental. Catrinka is a wonderful, generous and informative host. The quiet of the place is fabulous, as is the view. Two thumbs up.
We had a wonderful stay. Absolutely stunning and relaxing place. I highly recommend!
We stayed here for a week and really loved the place! Beautiful sunrise and sunset always filled with all kinds of different birds chattering. Highly recommend!
The property exudes peace and tranquility in a cozy, yet expansive setting. The ‘neighborhood’ is as perfect as they get, with each of the houses occupying at least 3 acres, individually. Perfect view of Mauna Kea. Unpolluted night skies, on cloudless nights for glimpsing the vastness of our universe… up close and personal. The bed was quite comfortable. Only one disappointment: just a single burner hot plate for cooking. Catrinka is a gracious and considerate host.
It was lovely to wake each morning to birdsong and pastoral views. Perfect for people like us who don't crave crowds. We were close enough to beaches, botanical gardens, farmers markets, historical sights, and amenities that we could easily have our fill of adventures and yet still have a quiet oasis to retreat to. We felt instantly at home! When our home fins didn't fit into our carry on luggage, we prepared ourselves to rent and return fins somewhere on the Big Island. It was a happy surprise to discover that fins and other gear were waiting for us in the storage bin out the back door. And the shelves of books was another delight! There were books for both leisure reading and for learning about learning about Hawaii. It was wonderful to dive into the Hawaiian books to debrief after each day and to tune into the next day's possibilities. As other people have mentioned, the kitchen does not contain a full range, but we found all that we needed and more. And it is easy to see why the place is so comfortable and peaceful; Catrinka is a wonderful host. Always ready and responsive, but never intrusive. For us, it was the perfect place to be! Mahalo nui Catrinka for the wonderful experience!
Everything was wonderful.. Our host, location, emenities, birds, view, cleanliness, advice, books, King bed! Mahola!
My second stay here, and I will return again. A very comfortable and tidy place with an amazing view. Very private with the friendly owner right next door.
This property is very comfortable and classy. It is as cute as the photos. With plenty of towels, closet space, kitchen accessories, a book nook and even a work space it checks all the boxes. It was sparkling clean and the hostess was very gracious. Stay here. You will not be disappointed.
Our stay at Catrinka’s hale was stunning. Every morning I couldn’t believe the breeze coming through, and the views and sounds of nature out every window. It’s a quick drive to Waimea coffee company or Hapuna beach! There were many useful odds and ends as far as kitchen, toiletry, and beach items. Tape and scissors! We swapped pillows for the ones in the closet that were more like ours at home. Any time I needed something I was able to find it, if I wasn’t I knew Catrinka was a phone call away. Would love to stay again!
Loved that this property had absolutely everything you could want to have a very homey experience. We bought some groceries but the kitchen was very well stocked with condiments, oil, jam, cooking tools, etc. We also loved the various living spaces and the beach gear! Would definitely be great for travelers on a budget who want to cook all their meals and do some hiking or exploring on the north side of the island or in Waimea.
Catrinka thought of everything in preparing her home for guests. Well-stocked with quality supplies, well laid out for convenience, beautifully landscaped with a superb view of Mauna Kea, we couldn't have enjoyed it more!!
Thoughtfully appointed by the caring host, comfortable and peaceful. Ever-changing views of Mauna Kea is a true Big Island experience. We are looking forward to a return visit.
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Catrina’s Hideaway this week. She provides all the creature comforts and more and we love the quiet pastoral atmosphere away from the hotel craziness. We woke to birds singing and enjoyed all the beautiful flowers. Check the cupboards and fridge before grocery shopping as many staples are available. Catrinka was a wonderful hostess. A great place to stay!!
Wonderful for a couple that likes to visit the small town museums and loves the cooler ranch country of Hawaii. We would come back again and again. Catrinka was so accomodating and helpful with everything. Great at hosting. We have been coming to this Island for more than a decade and half, and will continue to do so. This is now our go to location if available.
Exactly as described. Tasteful and comfortable with magnificent views. Fully stocked.
Had a wonderful stay. Instantly felt at home. There were so many thoughtful touches, and it was so peaceful and comfortable.
This is a great place to retreat to after a day of sightseeing. It is quiet, very clean and has expansive views across to Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. Good restaurants nearby in Waimea. You need a vehicle to get around. The host is very friendly and accommodating. It's not a resort - just what I was looking for!
Cat's property was more than we expected. The views were amazing, the stars at night were stunning and the area was very peaceful. The house had absolutely every single thing we needed during our ten day stay. This is a 5 star hostess and property. We are looking forward to coming back.
We had a great stay and I highly recommend anyone visiting the Big island to stay her. Great views and very peaceful.
Great experience! Very comfortable suite with fabulous views-so nice to wake up to every day :)
