Perched on the highest point in the coveted High Bluffs at the Mauna Kea Resort, Hapuna Modern House is a home like no other in Hawai'i. Unlike the common resort-style architecture of heavy woods and granite finishing's so common in the area, the House takes its simple, modern inspiration from the work of Vladimir Ossipof who brought Hawaiian Modern to the islands in the 1960's. Hapuna Modern House provides each of its residents with the finest, most comfortable accommodation fully outfitted with all comforts anticipated. The goal is to “get the house out of the way” so residents may enjoy the views and natural beauty of the tropical volcanic desert. Two-hour drive to Volcano National Park.
As part of the Hapuna Resort at Mauna Kea, residents are a 15-minute walk to world-class golf, tennis and full resort amenities like fine dining, spa services and water sports on either of Conde Nast's “two best beaches in the Western hemisphere.” (*additional fee for full resort access) Returning Guest to Hapuna Modern House, please inquire directly for our HaMoHo Loyalty Discount. While this home offers unique ocean, coastline and mountain views, as with many homes in the Mauna Kea Resort, it's located near the main road. Road noise on the lanai varies depending on weather conditions and traffic patterns.

Five ocean-facing luxury primary king-size bedrooms, two rooms with quiet reading sitting areas, and two with work-from-home ethernet-connected desk areas. All bedroom suites have Minka Aviation ceilings fans, built-in device-charging stations, mirrored closets with solid wood built-in cabinets and zoned Carrier air-conditioning. One of the bedrooms can be configured into two twin beds upon request for a fee.

Amazing location. Highly recommend this house. Everything about it is Fantastic. The view is one of the best you will ever see.
I wanted to pick the perfect stay for my family to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. Me my wife our 2 kids there spouses and 3 grandkids. I looked at over 200 homes looking for the perfect one. I saved this one amd kept coming back to it. The view of the ocean, sunrise and sunset was remarkable. The pool and hot tub kept all of us busy. 5 beds and 6 bathrooms were perfect. The amenities in the house amd everyrhibg you needed was there. Especially all the tupperware was perfect. Chairs and umbrellas perfect for the beach. The entire modern house was so cool. David the concierge helped us with everything. In our opinion it was a 10 out of 10. Thank you for everything it made our anniversary trip just perfect.
We had an absolutely wonderful time at this property! From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect — the space was spotless, beautifully decorated, equipped and very comfortable. The host and property concierge were incredibly welcoming and responsive, providing great local tips and making sure we had everything we needed.The location was ideal, close to resort amenities but still peaceful and quiet. The amenities exceeded our expectations, especially the well-equipped kitchen and cozy living area. We also loved the outdoor space — perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring.Overall, this was one of our best VRBO experiences, and we would definitely stay here again. Thank you for making our trip so memorable!
The owners of this property have done everything right with their home. The management company - wonderful. The home is appointed with every item one could need or hope to have available. The instruction and guide booklet was superbly written, extremely helpful and detailed. Don't let the pics fool you...in person - it is even better! The view is unmatched; the home is decorated with the most pleasing colors and furniture. Unfortunately, they have ruined the thought of staying at any other property. We hope to come back to HaMoHo again, and again. Thank you Duncan and Rowly!
This is simply the most well appointed home we have ever rented (of 20 rentals). Not only everything you need, but things you did not know you needed, and all organized and labeled to make it easy for you, and perhaps more importantly the next guest.My personal favorite features were the enormous pool, and the high end bedrooms - all equally appointed so no complaints on who got the “best” room.Big Island is great - don’t miss Waimea (just up the hill) it’s closer than Kona and has a relaxed vibe that is a refreshing change from the resorts.Aloha Mr. Hand - Aloha Spicoli
Very modern, clean and functional property. Incredibly comfortable, too. Best views (and sunsets!) in all of Hawaii. The property manager/concierge was attentive and I never had to wait more than 30 minutes for a reply to any and all questions we had about the house. Can't wait to stay here again next summer with my family.

The house was exactly as pictured on the listing. Every year we take a family vacation with my husband’s parents, his sister and her husband and our two kids, now teenagers who don’t want to share a room. With five bedrooms, it was the perfect set up. All of the rooms have sliding doors that open to the pool area, so we were able to go in and out as needed. There is plenty of seating outside, so it would the perfect gathering place. The views from the pool area are spectacular - again, the photos on the listing don’t lie. It’s going to be hard to leave in a few hours for the airport. We’re already looking at booking a week here next year - if we could stay forever I would.
A gorgeous setting. The house was very comfortable and everything was so “thought out” to make our stay perfect. We loved the location and the view takes your breath away. We would highly recommend this property.
We had an absolutely perfect week at the hapuna modern house. We had 6 adults and 2 small children (2 and 8 months) and everyone had a blast! This house has everything you could possibly need and more. Pictures don’t even compare to the real thing. We were blown away by the attention to detail and amount of care put into every aspect of this house. David was so quick to respond to any question and recommend a fabulous private chef (big I private chef) as well as as a company to rent every possible baby item you could need (aloha Kona kids). Fantastic experience with all recommendations from the concierge. We are so thankful to the owners for letting us rent this beautiful luxury home. Can’t wait to come back!
Look, my family and I have stayed in really nice rentals over the years and every single member of our group said the same thing - this was the best rental we have ever had the privilege of staying in. There aren't pictures or words that do it justice. You have to stay in it to see. As picture perfect as it is in the listing, it's better in person.
