The master suite comes with its own private whale watching tower! The house sleeps eight, two in each suite plus futons for young children up to 10 years old.

'HALE KONA A'EKAI' is a unique oceanfront private custom home meaning 'the home by the wash of the sea'. It was intricately designed to capture the essence of waterfront Hawaiian living. Thatched ceilings, open walls, louvered teak windows, ten foot teak doors, endless lanais, and tropical landscaping, all help to capture the spirit of the islands. The house is exquisitely detailed with imported teak, bamboo, marble, granite, and quartzite throughout. The home has been featured in several magazines. The grounds are equally impressive with rare tropical flowers and palms, four waterfalls and a stunningly impressive bathing pool with an infinity edge. A stairway bridge takes you across to the island pedestal where you can lavish in a dinner surrounded by water with simultaneous views of the sunset, waterfalls and the crash of the waves! Enchanting, magical and romantic--there is so much more to describe---but you must see it for yourself! Unsurpassed luxury. Great location and lovely house! We felt like we were walking into paradise and we had a great week. The pool and view were perfect for our family. Being able to walk a short way to a perfect beach as well as the short drive into town really made things stress free. The bedroom areas are roomy and private. The kitchen is very well stocked. The stove/oven and microwave definetly could use an update as well as having to light the BBQ with a lighter but we were able to have great family meals. Any questions or concerns we had were handled quickly and so pleasantly. We appreciated the many quality pool towels as well as chairs and 'toys' we could use in the pool and take to the beach. This was a splurge vacation for our family and we were not disappointed. We enjoyed the sunsets daily.

Beautiful, stunning home. We were a group of 8 and everybody had more than enough space. It is completely open, which took a little bit of getting used to the first couple of nights, but the neighborhood is quiet and we felt very safe. We also had to adjust to sharing the home with a few bugs, lizards, and sleeping with fans. But being right on the ocean was more than worth it. The ocean breeze and the rain made our stay very comfortable. Definitely an amazing Hawaiian experience.

Great location, beautiful home. Ample room for our 3 families. Mae our hostess was outstanding. Description of property was accurate but room for improvements. House needs AC, fans and ocean breeze is not nearly enough. The waterfalls are all on timers that are controlled by the owner which is fine but they don’t run long enough, especially the ones in the courtyard…those should run throughout the night so that the back rooms can enjoy them while they’re sleeping. Kitchen oven and stove need to be replaced. We couldn’t get the bottom oven to work and not all burners work on the stove. Kitchen pantry needs to be cleaned out, there are items in there that have been expired for years. Overall we had a great time, but how could we not. We were in Hawaii after all!

Beautiful, wonderful, clean, spacious, all that we hoped for. Bath tub in accommodations above garage needs a mat - very slippery, slipped instantly and hit ribs on side of tub. Hurt for whole trip but still enjoyed stay very much. Would come back anytime. Get a mat please!! Thank you for your hospitality and kindness.

We booked a stay at this special listing for our family vacation with our adult children and their spouses. Each felt the property was a highlight of our trip. Coffee in the morning by the pool overlooking the oceanfront was a favorite of everyone. The pool and lounging was wonderful. The open air environment was great. Be sure to use the fans at night for extra airflow. Kitchen was well stocked. And the tour of the property at Check-in was very helpful. Also the property is located in a gated housing division with 24-hour surveillance for extra security. It is a very special place and we would stay again. It really was so much better than the photos.

Overall a great house and wonderful experience. Especially like the pool. Appliances are a little dated and the grill was sketchy. Highly recommend .

During an exceptionally cold winter, it was heaven to spend a wonderful week basking poolside in the warm breezes watching the whales and boats go by. The house is beautiful and nicely outfitted, very open with the feel of Hawaii throughout. But for me it was all about the view!

Stayed with two families, with 5 children under 10. House entrance is gorgeous with all kinds of interesting plants and water features to explore with littles. The main area is breathtaking and while it took some time to acclimate to no AC it was worth it. The layout of the property was a little unclear (main house has master bedroom upstairs , then a separate whole unit above garage, and another unit with 2 bedrooms on ground level and even with large fans it stayed pretty hot all night. Probably biggest and only real “complaint”. The noise rules were mostly reasonable to follow, although more challenging in the mornings to keep kids quiet than evening! But again, not a huge issue. House manager was very nice and responsive although we didn’t need anything after check in. A few helpful thoughts for future families: 1) there was not much in way of beach toys. Most houses this size have an array of beach chairs, boogie boards, etc. there was an old umbrella and a few pairs of fins but not much else. 2) the Keiki beach just down the way is nice for little (under 6 or so) ones but pretty boring for older kids. Don’t expect to spend much time there. 3) the open air concept took some acclimating to but then it was wonderful! 4) there’s mosquitos! Use the bed netting and bug spray.

Amazing property. Tremendous view of the ocean just across the property fence. Spectacular sunset every night. Stocked better with amenities and accessories than any other Vrbo I have in which I have stayed. The pool was perfect, overlooking the ocean and an integral part of the house.

This home is dreamy. It is open-air so you always have the feeling of being in synch with the Hawaiian air. It is uniquely divided into rooms that provide privacy. The Master suite is amazing. There is no air conditioning, so if you are coming in the middle of summer, be prepared to use fans in the evening as it can be warm and stuffy. The infinity pool was as advertised, and the views of the ocean were surreal. A short 5-minute walk gets you down the beach to a swimmable cove that was never too crowded. The kitchen was great for cooking large family meals. This home felt so private but you are only 5-10 minutes from restaurants, grocery stores, and shops. Our party of 6 had an amazing time. The local property contact, Mei, was a delight and welcomed us when we arrived. She was always responsive by text or phone. Overall, we were more than satisfied with our stay. Mahalo.

There was absolutely nothing more we could have wanted in this beautiful home and setting! From the very beginning, any inquiry about the property was addressed with sincere interest in making our stay all that we had hoped for. The home owner identified with how important this holiday was for us,-~ celebrating our 50th Anniversary with the family. The sheer delight and awe that came over ALL OF US will be remembered. The comments and smiles were worth every dollar. We will remember this with love and delight. As the on-site hostess welcomed us and gave us a tour and orientation to the home, we now all share special memories that we will recall for years to come. Thank You Sheree, Bruce and Mei for all you did to make this time WONDERFUL. We didn't want to leave.

This was the nicest VRBO location I’ve ever stayed in. The unique layout combined with the spectacular view gave my entire extended family the vacation of a lifetime. There were six adults and five kids and everyone had something to do. The pool was a hit, the outdoor space was perfect for everyone and the accommodations were great for each family. The wow factor of this property is like no other, but once you settle in, the amenities make it feel like home. Everything was well organized, fully stocked and Sheree was extremely communicative. If we can, we will be back someday!

We had an amazing stay at this property. Exceeded our expectations from the pictures online. We loved being able to hang out in the several lounging spots at the house, being able to walk the beach and tidepools directly in front of the home and easily walk to town. We didn't feel like we needed to leave the property it was so great. Mei, the property manager helped us immediately and gave recommendations. We would absolutely book again.
