Property Overview

Official website. When Granma was 95, we had to move her in with us to take care of her. This left her little panabode cabin (900 square feet with a 500 square-foot wrap-around lanai) vacant. Lucky you . . . you can spend your Hawaiian vacation in this beautiful, quiet, and centrally located cabin which has just about everything.
There is a complete kitchen, a bath with tub and shower, a washer/dryer, a living/dining room, and a cable TV . There is also a big gas barbecue, and birds for a morning alarm clock. We even left all the little nick knacks in place to make this is truly a 'home-away-from-home'.
The home is backed by a herb farm and macadamia nut orchard. It is surrounded by mac nuts, lychee, and mango, avocado, and citrus trees. If anything is in season during your stay, you are welcome to enjoy it.
The big island of Hawaii is almost 200 miles around.

As you tour the island and along the Kona Coast you can see cattle ranches, rain forests, lava fields, volcanoes, snowcapped mountains in the winter, beaches, and spectacular valleys and waterfalls.
Our cabin is located in one of the most temperate places on earth. We have over 300 excellent days a year. All of our prior guests have raved about their stay, and have vowed to come back. The Big Island has something for everyone.

We really enjoyed staying at this beautiful log cabin! Harry was a kind host and the cabin has everything you need for a great vacation, including: shopping bags, coolers, ice packs, beach chairs, beach towels, water shoes, snorkel gear (1 of the 3 snorkels is broken though), pool noodles, beach umbrellas, and all kinds of small touches to make your stay comfortable. The large wrap-around lanai was so beautiful and we spent every morning out there looking at the ocean. The neighbor is doing some kind of construction so we couldn't really hang out outside during the day as much as we wanted (wasn't a huge problem because we mostly were gone during the day). It was so peaceful to sit outside while little rain showers rolled through, and there were cute geckos running around. Harry also cultivates an amazing garden and the whole property is so lush with plants and flowers. The listing says it's a 2 bedroom, but as you can see in the photos it is really a one bedroom with a day bed/trundle in the living room. There isn't any AC, but we were able to get by using the two available fans and there are lots of ceiling fans. The bed is small but comfortable. You definitely need a car to stay here, but it's only 10 minutes from the airport and 15 from downtown Kona. There is a private driveway for the cabin. Overall, I would definitely stay here again! Mahalo, Harry!

2nd time staying in this wonderfully located space. Harry is a great host who offers all the comforts we were looking for. This loaction cannot be beat. It's an easy drive straight down the hill to anywhere on the West side of the island. Evenings here are an absolute pleasure with the temperature being 10-15 degrees F cooler and lovely afternoon/evening rain showers.

Beautiful house and very clean! It feels like that’s your house, not a rental property. Amazing view from the deck especially at sunset. There are a lot of stuff in the house in case if you need something (beach chairs, snorkeling masks, fins, umbrellas, beach towels and much more). There is also a nice gas grill. My respect to the owner Harry for maintaining and keeping the house in such excellent condition. Thank you once again, that was unforgettable vacation!

We had an excellent stay at Granma’s Cabin. The location was perfect for us - tucked away in a nice, quiet neighborhood, but only 15-20 minutes to dining, shopping and great beach spots. The airport was less than 15 minutes away too.The cabin was clean and comfortable and was stocked with all the kitchen equipment needed to whip up a nice meal. There are even some basic supplies like oil, seasonings and butter.Harry and Deb are terrific hosts. We enjoyed meeting them and they are there to help out with anything you need or have questions about, but the cabin is very private. We would not hesitate to stay again.

This house was spacious and just perfect for us. It's located up the hill from the airport, so it is a very convenient location. It sits about the same distance from the northwest and southwest beaches and is about 20 minutes from Kailua-Kona. It's also a little cooler location than down on the coast. The beds were very comfortable and the full bath had everything we needed. There was plenty of beach going equipment, so there was no need to purchase ot rent anything. Granma's Cabin has a full and well appointed kitchen, providing everything we needed to BBQ and prepare any meal. The wrap-around porch was a huge bonus for enjoying early morning coffee and watching the sunset.Out host, Harry was very helpful and super accommodating.

Harry provided us with the perfect base for our first time in Hawaii. From helpful local information, everything you would need for a beach day without having to bring it 5000 miles, to the best sunsets we have seen in a long time, it made our stay on the Big Island the best it could be. Thank you again to Harry for our little piece of paradise.

Harry has a great place and kept us well informed. Check in process was easy, the cabin is close to town and the airport. Plenty of great beaches nearby, there were plenty of amenities. He let us borrow some beach equipment from the cabin for our day travels. Overall excellent and worth it!

Great location, helpful and kind hosts, very cozy and has everything you need to enjoy a fabulous stay on the Big Island! The cabin is even better in person than photos show. An added bonus is the roasted macademia nuts provided by Harry & Deb! Would definitley stay here again if we are able to return to this area.

We have stayed at Granma's cabin at least 6 times. Our return is due to the wonderful private home, the perfect location, and the lovely hosts, Harry'n Deb. Each year, it has been like coming home - and each year Harry has carried out upgrades to make the place more comfortable and efficient. We love the privacy of the cabin and lanai. The living room is welcoming and the kitchen, bathroom, laundry and barbecue are perfect. The bed is very very comfortable. We love the foliage as well as the flowers and their fragrances - very attractive for butterflies. There are doves, java and saphron finches, cardinals, Kalij pheasants, and Erckel's spurfowl on the property.15 minutes will get you downtown for shopping and beach access. 5 minutes up the hill allow you access to a major highway running north south and 10 minutes down hill will bring you to a major highway, also running north south and to the water. We could not ask for a better place to spend some time away from winter and a schedule.

Property was as advertised and a very pleasant place to stay, tucked away in a quiet residential neighborhood. The stand-alone residence was a nice alternative to a condo complex.A hillside view of sunsets over the ocean were spectacular and it was only a 10-minute drive to a beach location to sit on the sand, if preferred. Easy access to Costco for food and gas and to the airport. Host and hostess were very helpful and congenial.

Everything about this stay was great. From communication with Harry to directions to get places, from every amenity you might want to comfort and cleanliness. We loved staying in this neighborhood with quiet nights to refreshing temperatures and breezes. We are just figuring out when we can come back tomorrow stay longer. Thank you Harry and Deb.

From all the reviews I read, I can't argue with any of them. Harry was a great host - there when you needed him but otherwise total privacy. We prepared almost all our meals on site when not out running around. The kitchen had all the tools we needed plus lots of herbs and spices. You can't beat the ambiance of eating on the wrap around deck with broad views of the lower island. Best place we stayed in our decades of vaca.

We had a fantastic stay at this house on the Big Island! The location is peaceful and serene, nestled in a quiet area surrounded by lush trees, vibrant flowers, and a stunning ocean view. It was such a treat to wake up to the beautiful scenery every morning—it truly felt like a private retreat in nature. The house itself was clean, well-maintained, and had all the amenities we needed for a comfortable stay. The host was welcoming and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed during our visit. We also appreciated their quick responses and helpful recommendations for the area. This is a perfect spot for anyone looking to relax and unwind while enjoying the natural beauty of the island. We would definitely stay here again! 🌺🌴 I would recomend Hapuna Beach, Kaunaʻoa (Mauna Kea) Beach and Spencer Beach Park for the little one. The Mahai'ula beach is very good, but you would need 4WD.

If you are looking for a glamorous, glitzy, touristy spot...this isnt it! If you are looking for a place to stay that exudes Hawai'i..this is it! Harry and Deb, the owners were are the consument hosts of " Granma's Cabin". Located up the hill from Kona, surrounded by lush flowers, tall trees and foliage, Peaceful and beautiful. The cabin is equipped with everything you might need to enjoy Kona. Ok, it doesn't have A/C, but honestly we didn't need it except for a couple of afternoons in the week we were there. Give it a try.

Loved Granma's Cabin! Probably the best value in Kona! Beautiful location with view of ocean and surrounded with vegetation. Temperatures were very comfortable especially at night since it is a little higher elevation. This cabin has everything you need. The owner Harry is very hospitable and even had a huge container of macadamia nuts from his tree for us to eat! They were so good! Will definitely stay here again if we ever come back!

Convenient, clean, comfortable, unique, spacious, with beautiful views from the porch! Lots of extras, well equipped kitchen. Harry, in the house next door, was a friendly and generous host while still giving us space and privacy. Fresh picked mangoes were the best we’ve ever eaten!

Property with stunning views. Harry struck a good balance of being on the property and available to help as well as giving us our privacy. We absolutely loved coming back to the property at the end of each day and watching the sunset. The temperatures were lovely at the elevation. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

My sister and I stayed for nearly one week; all amenities were fantastic and the location was perfect for activities in and around Kailua-Kona and the Kohala Coastline. The Ohana was neat and clean and had everything one would need during a trip to the Big Island. Enjoy the taste of older Hawaii at its finest. Mahalo, Harry!

I have rent 3 different vacation cabins in Hawaii, one in Oahu, one in Maui and this one in Big Island. All of them are 5 stars, but Granma's Cabin is the best among them. Harry is very nice and helpful, and it felt like we were really at home. I'll definitely stay here again when I visit Big Island in the future.

What a fantastic place and great host! We needed a low-key place for a girls' long weekend to rest and recharge. Harry, our host, was in communication before our arrival and even let us know the property was ready early! When we arrived, he was there to greet us. He showed us around the property and shared all the details and resources. It felt like we were at home, literally. Being in a quiet neighborhood was so essential for us to. Everything was so clean. We enjoyed the deck as this was a time to relax and unwind. So many at-home conveniences too! We will be back.

I think this our 6th stay with Harry'n'Deb at Granma's cabin. The cottage was perfect for us in all aspects from the lanai, bed comfort, linens, cooking utensils/supplies, to temperatures (daytime and night). The upgraded wifi allowed for even better coverage in all parts of the cabin. Although I did not use them, the closet was filled with beach chairs, beach towels, snorkels, fins, water socks, sand toys, umbrellas and boogey boards. The property provided lots of privacy. We appreciated all the beautiful foliage and flowers which attracted gorgeious finches, doves and cardinals. There were occasional visits Kalij pheasants and an egret. The geckos were very numerous and entertaining. We definitely benefited from the location giving us easy access to highways leading all over the island, and roads accessing Costco and downtown Kona. We hiked the Makaula O'oma trail and visited two historic sites (both worth visiting) - Pu'ukohola Heiau National Historic site and Pu'uhonau o Hanaunau, Historical Park. Harry and Deb are wonderful hosts and make Granma's cabin a home away from home for us - Thank you Harry and Deb! See you next year!

My husband and I had a wonderful, relaxing six day vacation in "Granma's Cabin." Our host, Harry, did a great job making us feel welcome and setting us up for an excellent stay: he met us when we arrived and toured us all around the cabin to show us how things worked and where things were kept. (This saved us a lot of time rifling through drawers later in the trip.) After that, though, we had the place totally to ourselves -- it felt very private! The cabin has everything you'll need for a relaxing vacation, from a fully stocked kitchen (including some pantry staples) to spare snorkels and fins. Harry had recently roasted some macadamia nuts from the tree on his property, and showed us how to use the nut opener when we arrived -- an unexpected and delightful amenity! (He also gave us a couple of amazing avocados to get our trip off to a great start.) We loved being able to cook for ourselves and relax at our home-away-from-home when we weren't exploring the forests and beaches of the Big Island. The location is excellent, convenient to the airport and not far from the main town of Kailua-Kona. The cabin is also just a few minutes down the road from the Matsuyama Food Mart, which has an affordable and tasty deli/restaurant in addition to stocking all the grocery essentials you might need. We had a wonderful time and hope to return to Granma's Cabin the next time we are on the Big Island. Thanks for a great stay!
