This charming and spacious Garden Hale Apartment is situated on a lush two acres on the sunny side of Waimea (Kamuela)
Our peaceful retreat is the perfect location for exploring the numerous points of interest on the Big Island and a private getaway to relax and experience 'Hawaiian Time'.
It features beautiful bamboo and stone floors, 9 feet ceilings with fans, and a private lanai and outdoor seating and grilling. A fully stocked kitchen with a full size refrigerator, large convection oven and two state of the art induction cooktops. The bedroom features a comfortable queen size bed with upscale linens. Private outdoor shower garden. Free parking is provided.
You will find yourself just minutes away from the best beaches on the Big Island. The largest of Hawaii Island’s white sand beaches, Hapuna Beach, has consistently been rated on numerous international Top Ten lists. Mauna Kea Beach, a perfect crescent of golden sand leading to calm water, has been voted among the Top 10 beaches in the U.S. Both offer great conditions for swimming, sunbathing, body boarding and snorkeling.
Beyond the beaches, Hawaii offers a host of outdoor activities and sightseeing opportunities. Head to Waimea and visit the many shops and galleries.
Waimea Town is the perfect starting point for a trip to the Volcano National Park. A memorable drive to Hilo along the Hamakua Coast offers breathtaking views of historic Waipio Valley. This area is also home to Akaka Falls, one of Hawaii's most famous. You'll see deep water-carved gulches and valleys, thick with tropical foliage. Stop and tour gardens full of exotic plants and orchids.
For adventure of a higher nature, the 13,700 foot summit of Mauna Kea provides dramatic scenery and an unforgettable visitor experience. The W. M. Keck Observatory provides a visitor’s gallery with exhibits describing astronomy research and star gazing.
There's no better way to experience the amazing cultural diversity of Hawaii Island than to visit one of the farmers’ markets that take place all around the island. You’ll find fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables used in Hawaii Regional Cuisine, exotic varieties that are as intriguing as they are tasty plus an eclectic collection of prepared foods. The market is also a great place to pick up handmade artwork or a unique gift and strike up a conversation with the artist who made them.

RENTAL POLICIES
DOUBLE OCCUPANCY ONLY
NO SMOKING INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF PROPERTY This is a non-smoking home and property.
Abuse of this policy will result in the loss of your security deposit.
USE OF PROPERTY You may use the property for vacationing only. No weddings, parties or functions. You may not use it for any illegal, improper or offensive activity. Only registered guests
May spend the night.
NO PETS ALLOWED
REFUNDABLE SECURITY DEPOSIT Deposit is returned within 7 days of departure barring any losses, damages or abuse of this contract. Please report any damages to owner upon arrival and before departure.
ACCESS Guest shall allow Homeowner access to the property for purpose of repair, cleaning and inspection. Homeowner shall exercise this right of access in a reasonable manner.
PARKING There is a designated, off street parking spot for one vehicle. Vehicle is to be parked only in this designated spot.
WEATHER We experience many climates on The Big Island. Our location is on the sunny side of Waimea Town and we enjoy warm days and cool evenings. Weather can be a factor of any travel and we do not extend weather related refunds.
QUIET TIME Quiet time to be observed from 10:00 pm to 8:00 am.
LAUNDRY ROOM There is a laundry room provided for our guests. Hours of operation are from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm daily. Laundry detergent is provided. If you need different hours let us know and if we can accommodate you we will.
PESTS Bugs and pests are a normal part of our life in the topics both inside and out. You can do your part to keep them to a minimum by keeping screens and doors closed at all times. Also do not leave food sitting out or dirty dishes in the sink as these will attract ants. We do have pest control on a regular basis but our climate does promote pests. If you are having a problem please call us and we will do what we can, but as we said, pests are part of tropical life.
PHONE & INTERNET There is no house phone but there is cell phone reception and free Wi Fi.
MAID SERVICE The home is cleaned before and after your stay but maid service is not included. If you would like maid service during your stay, we can help you arrange it at your own expense. Linens and towels are provided. Beach towels are the only towels that may be removed from the premises.
SUPPLIES We supply hand soap in the bathroom and kitchen, toilet tissue, laundry and dish soap to get you started but unlike a hotel we do not replenish supplies during your stay. Shampoo and body soap is provided. There may be foil, plastic wrap, paper towels and storage bags left behind by other guests but we do not supply these items.
RUBBISH AND RECYCLING Please take all rubbish tightly sealed in bags to the trashcans. Please help our environment by placing garbage, glass and recycle items in the properly marked can. CHECKOUT: PLEASE RETURN THE KEY TO THE LOCK BOX AND TURN OFF ALL LIGHTS, FANS AND APPLIANCES.
LIABILITY WAIVER This vacation rental property is privately owned. The owners are not responsible for any accidents, injuries or illnesses that occur while on the premises or its facilities. The homeowner is not responsible for the loss of personal belongings or valuables of the guest. By accepting this reservation, it is agreed that all guests are expressly assuming the risk of any harm arising from the use of the premises by themselves, their children or others whom they invite on the premises and hereby waive any claim of liability or negligence against the homeowner for any accidents, injuries or illness that may occur while on the premise or its facilities.

A perfect ohana cottage nestled in a lush garden. The location is great- close to shops grocery stores and restaurants in Waimea and just a short drive to some great beaches and parks. The kitchen had all you need to make meals. The ceiling fans kept you coo in the living area (we rarely used the A/C. The bedroom got a bit warm but we used 2 portable fans. Matt is a great host and just lets you be. Buy the flight, rent a car, and book this place for star gazing alone. We spent nearly a month and was sad to leave.
It’s a nice quiet place. Bed is a tad too small for 2 people but have another place 10 minutes away so just one of us sleeping here in turns. Used the grill once and the laundry twice. No problems. Outdoor shower is actually pretty cool at night. Things that could be even better: There were some dead dried roaches on the floor near the glass door. Not a problem for us but some people might feel uncomfortable with that. Restroom could use a vent fan. Again, it’s never cold outside here so we didn’t mind just opening the window but when you have two people using it one after another it might felt not so good. The backyard is cool but there’re mosquitoes. I got stung probably 4-5 times during the 10-day stay. Not a big deal.BTW TV is inside the TV cabinet. First day I thought there’s no TV in there LOLOverall a cool place for a young couple who don’t mind cuddling in bed. Really lovely gardens
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Matt & Rose's place! First, the location was perfect for us. It's only a 10 to 15 minute drive to our favorite beaches. And about 10 minutes to Waimea which has some nice restaurants, great farmer's markets, grocery stores and cute shops. The guest house is in a quiet residential neighborhood. It has a full kitchen with everything we needed, and a lovely bedroom and living room area with tv. The only shower, it should be noted, is the outdoor shower. It was perfectly fine during our stay, with the exception of the last day when I showered before 7am and it was cloudy and windy out. But there was plenty of hot water so it was ok. Matt was available if needed and communication was great. I was glad there was a beach umbrella and beach chairs and towels for us to use. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to come back again!

Perfect one bedroom cottage for two in a private setting with a secluded yard. Seven minute ride to Harpuna Beach.
We have stayed with Matt & Rose before, and will again. The property is beautiful and so peaceful and relaxing. Matt met us when we arrived, and explained everything that’s new about the Ohana we stayed in. We had a wonderful time. Thank you.
The place was clean. My biggest complaint was spotty internet. Quite often the internet would go down interupting any access. Other than that, a nice place to stay.
We had a great visit! Matt was a thoughtful and welcoming host. The accommodations were clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the outdoor shower and private backyard. Kitchen facilities were great to cook meals in. Overall, we would recommended it as a great place to access ocean beaches, and the Waimea end of the Big Island. Great WiFi which made my working from remote easy to do.
We had a wonderful stay at this cottage. Located in Kamuela, just west of Waimea, the surroundings were rural and very quiet. The cottage was well appointed, with most everything you would need during your visit. It was tastefully decorated and comfortable. If you’re looking for a vacation rental away from crowds, I would recommend this lovely abode.
This was our second visit to the Garden Hale, we found it as welcoming and relaxing and quiet. We were looking for a base to spend time on the beach, enjoy upcountry farmers markets and take in the multitude of starry skies in the evening, we found it here. The kitchen is setup is excellent, most everything you’d need as well as a new bbq outside. The outdoor shower is pleasant and warm, the bed was comfy. We didn’t need the AC, as the ceiling fans and a good cross breeze through open windows was wonderful. Matt was quick to respond to any questions and very accommodating in helping us add an extra night, lucky us. Thanks for the lemons too! We hope to return soon

Wonderful 6-night stay at Garden Hale! The Hale was exceptionally clean, beautifully appointed, and very comfortable. Rose and Matt responded quickly to all communications (mahalo for the personalized aloha message; that was an extra-nice touch!). Perfect location for accessing Waikoloa beaches, as well as exploring North Kohala (lots of great areas), Honoka'a, Waipio Valley Lookout, and Saddle Road hikes. We would definitely stay at Garden Hale again. It was very quiet and peaceful.
We were on the Big Island for a memorial service. We were close to the Harbor and beaches as well as the town of Waimea where you can buy groceries. The location was perfect and so quiet. The stars at night were amazing. Matt was a great host and we would stay there again in a heartbeat. The grounds on the property are beautiful.

Lovely property in secluded rural location. Nicely decorated, well equipped, and very clean. Easy drive to town for shopping and restaurants. All the amenities we needed (although we did not see the washer and dryer that were mentioned in the listing). Lovely private outdoor patio, surrounded by vegetation, although this meant no real view. Great place for a relaxing winter getaway.
Loved the trees, flowers, and waking up to the birds in the morning! Matt and Rose were friendly and responsive hosts. Unit was clean and comfortable. There was even a USB cable for convenient streaming from my laptop. Would definitely stay here again!
Matthew and Rose were attentive and helpful owners who are onsight... but not up in your business :) I enjoyed the cleanliness of the property most, crisp white towels and linens are a must for me! Bed was pretty comfortable, furniture throughout unit was so cozy and comfortable. The place was well put together so it was very inviting. The unit is equipped with full size fridge, a water filter pitcher, and plenty of dishes. WiFi worked great, the fans cooled the unit down wonderfully. Hands down best feature: there is zero light pollution so the stars at night are amazing! Everything is about a 15-25 min drive away so this was perfect for me to get Away for awhile! I would absolutely stay again!
