Such a lovely and peaceful place! Everything we needed was there. Comfortable bed, all bathroom amenities supplied and resident outdoor kitty named “Cat” was the icing on the cake. We enjoyed our 4 night stay while checking out the beauty of the land and ocean as well as the wonderful food trucks of Hana. Thank you for a memorable stay. Aloha
Beautiful stargazing and lovely quiet oasis property. View from the lanai was great and the island breeze was amazing to wake up to. Hosts provided eggs and fruit from the garden which was lovely.
We absolutely loved our stay at Etabeni Cottage in Maui. This was the perfect retreat! Our hosts, Michael and Terry, were so sweet and accommodating. They communicated to us before-hand on how to drive the famous road to Hana which led to an amazing experience. The cottage was beautiful and we loved listening to the rain fall at night. Loved strolling through the property and looking at all the plants and flowers growing. We also loved the fresh farm eggs for breakfast which reminded us of home. Thank you for having us! If we ever get a chance to come back to Maui, we would definitely stay again!
My daughter and I stayed here and absolutely loved our experience! Terry greeted us and made sure we were comfortable and welcome! This is a beautiful property that we plan to come back to many times in the future. Very comfortable too!!
The fresh eggs were a wonderful addition to the stunning location. This property is very unique and made for a relaxing place to stay!
Terry was very kind and attentive. We felt like we were being hosted by family.
The kitchen was well stocked with food and pans and plates etc.
Paradise it is!! Add in fantastic hosts and it doesn't get any better!! We look forward to coming back for more down time and further exploring more of the Hana area.
The property is very beautiful and conveniently located. The cottage included everything that you would find in a normal kitchen and laundry room. The property owners are wonderful.
This is the place to stay on the Road to Hana. Highly recommend
We stayed at Entabeni Cottage in Hana for our honeymoon and could not have asked for a better experience. Terry and Michael were wonderful hosts. They were warm, responsive, and shared great recommendations on local places to visit and things to do. The property is beautiful and perfectly secluded. The gardens are stunning and the ocean view is spectacular. Fresh eggs and garden herbs were a wonderful treat. We wished we could have stayed longer. This is the perfect spot for anyone looking for peace, beauty, and genuine Hawaiian hospitality. We highly recommend it.
Amazing gardens, very cozy accommodations, loved hearing the rain. Wonderful welcome by owner and Catman the cat. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Great vistas and vegetation. Fabulous hosts
Terrys cottage is very charming and includes everything you need for a short or extended stay. The washer/dryer came in very handy. The fresh eggs for breakfast were delicious and convenient since you’re pretty far away from any restaurants (which we knew). The gardens are beautiful and the view was amazing. There is no air conditioning (which we knew) but the ocean breeze kept us very comfortable. I did use the the mosquito netting over the bed because small knats did get through the screens. My husband didn’t feel them at all. Terry gave us a full walk through and showed us where everything was and even offered a tour of the grounds. If you would like to stay on the Road to Hana, I would recommend this cottage for a short stay.
Unfortunately we have to write a bad review. After arriving late in the dark, there was a note taped to the front door of the cottage. No keys or keypad. We told the owners the next morning we would be not staying on the property only to sleep there. Our plans were to stay with family in Hana. So at that point when we left, they went through the cottage. The next night when we arrived back to the cottage, the doors were all opened. We knew we had shut the doors in the morning. The owners NEVER said they would be coming in to check up on us. They went in and opened all the doors. Never minding to pick up the dead cockroaches. We had valuables, shopping items, money and gifts. They told VRBO they do it to everyone that stays there . They check to see if you’ve left water running, doors shut or if you’ve hung up your bath towels. I really don’t see what business it is to them. You’re paying a price to stay there. My other family members NEVER HAD the owners checking up on them. I feel it was an invasion of privacy.I give them no stars for respect, courtesy or being honest with us. We will not return to their property ever again. When I approached VRBO, they said there was nothing they could do about it. I left a text message and they never responded. I was told they would call me that evening but never did. There’s better places to stay…
ENCHANTING and MAGICAL!!! We stayed at several different places on the Big Island and Maui, and this was far and away our favorite place. I haven’t slept so good or soundly in years. The heavenly scent of the tropical garden and ocean breeze will calm you during the day and lull you sleep at night. We spent a full day of our time in Hana just relaxing at the cottage, watching the ocean from the main room (combination bedroom/living room), and inhaling the perfume from the garden. Terry and Michael are amazing people. They are both extremely knowledgeable of the all the tropical flora - if you like plants even a little bit, you will be astounded by the variety of species they have cultivated on the property. Terry was also extremely communicative and helpful in preparing to come visit. Do yourself a favor and read everything she sends you carefully - Hana is remote with limited shopping and dining options, as well as limited cell service, so being prepared in advance will make a big impact on the comfort and serenity of your stay. They have beach chairs, boogie boards and snorkeling gear available, but we didn’t use any of it because we didn’t want to leave the cottage. We didn’t want to leave, period. We’re sending any of our friends and family coming to Maui here. I have never been in a place so beautiful and serene. Thank you, Michael and Terry, for a sublime experience.
This property meets all of the requirements we had during our stay, being clean, safe, and beautiful. It was much more than that, however. It was inspiring and felt like it was sprinkled with a little magic. The hospitality was lovely and we felt like we got a glimpse at authentic small-town Hawaiian life. Fantastic.
A beautiful, private, well kept oasis, away from all the noise. A perfect place to relax, reflect and rejuvenate. The cottage is bigger than it looks, and comes with everything you need to stay comfortable and/or enjoy the land and water. I'd recommend more than just a couple of nights here to really gain the East Maui experience. The location is central to everything East Maui has to offer. Our trip here was both magical and spiritual, and we'll never forget the love and care we received from Terry and Michael. With much Aloha, Ned and Katrina
Tucked away but easy to find, our experience at the cottage was truly extraordinary. We stopped at the cottage to spend the night while driving the road to Hana. Terry greeted us upon arrival to give us an introduction to the cottage. The 6 acre property is a former flower farm that Terry and Michael have turned into a sumptuous garden. The cottage is nestled on the mountain facing the ocean. They have thought of everything including fresh eggs from their chickens and delicious Maui grown coffee. There is a cozy nook to read and a panoramic view,of the ocean below. There is a place for everything. If you go, we encourage you to bring your own food to cook a meal because the kitchen is well stocked so you can cook. We would’ve liked to stay another day. Highlights of our trip included a wonderful tour of the gardens. If you love plants and flowers, you will be astonished at the wide variety of extraordinary plants and flowers on the property. We were able to explore the gardens on our own after our arrival. But Terry’s tour and meeting and speaking with Michael was absolutely a highlight. The cottage does not allow animals, but there are three cats and a dog on the property that are excellent tour companions through the garden. Our stay at Entabeni Cottage was a highlight of our wonderful trip to Hawaii. Terry and Michael made us feel so welcome. We had privacy as well. We highly recommend the outdoor shower. We will be back!
This is a beautiful place to stay. You are in the forest so there may be a bug or two. It was perfect for privacy and close to everything Hana
We loved this property! So peaceful and relaxing. Everything you will need for a restful vacation is here. Terry and Michael are terrific hosts! They shared their knowledge of the garden/Maui life with us! The cottage is surrounded by gorgeous tropical plants and trees! So relaxing! The interior is beautifully decorated and stocked with everything you will need to prepare meals. We enjoyed having coffee each morning looking out at the ocean while sitting in the living room area with the doors open listening to the birds, a great way to start the day!The cottage is located near Hana, the black sand beach, plus a few more beaches we visited on several occasions and a number of neat places to stop for burgers, pizza, ice cream, smoothies and more! If you're looking to unwind and relax in a tropical environment, this cottage is for you! We enjoyed our stay and if we make it back to Maui, this will be our go to home away from home!
It was a perfect, quiet and relaxing get away. The landscaping is second to none and the hosts are so accommodating. Wished we could have stayed longer.
Remarkably engaging in the Hana Aloha spirit
Our 2nd visit to this beautiful location. We love being in the rainforest...great way to enjoy the solitude after a busy week in Lahaina. Enjoyed the fresh eggs and the on and off rain showers each day. Beautiful Ocean view - very private. The owners are so nice and very accommodating. Thank you both.
Beautiful place with gardens, fresh eggs from the chicken coop, and amazing views. About five miles from Hāna.
Beautiful, private, grounds, and a comfortable, well-appointed cabin with a very nice view. Fresh eggs, and whatever else is available is a nice touch. We would stay there again if we return to Maui.
Always to the best experience!
Beautiful gardens. Fresh eggs, tomatoes and basil. Interesting cat that seems to want to be friendly, but then sat outside and meowed for hours to come in. A bit of spring cleaning needed - cobwebs, window cleaning. Bed sheets need replacing - no elastic left in fitted sheet. Overall a very cute. Quiet and private. Gardens were fantastic (world class), and the ocean view was beautiful. Worth coming back. No question.
This was our first visit to Maui and the highlight was driving the Road to Hana. Having done our research, we knew that this wasn’t something we’d want to rush. I approximated our drive over two days with sites to visit along the way (black sand beach, Lindbergh’s grave, rainbow eucalyptus trees, waterfalls, etc.) and determined that this property would be an excellent “half-way” place to stay. Upon booking, I received a friendly response from Terry providing detailed information about how to locate the property, where to stop to gather food for our stay, things to do in the area, etc. to aid in our planning. All instructions were super helpful. We arrived to the property around 6pm, finding that the gate had been left open for us. When we pulled up and honked our horn as instructed, we were greeted by sweet doggo, Star. Terry promptly greeted us and showed us around, pointing out some of the unique features of the property (outdoor shower, tankless water heater, etc.) Owners Terry and Michael have thoughtfully provided many items that could be useful to those traveling, including body boards, beach chairs, towels for use at the beach, etc. The accommodation itself was adequate for our needs- a comfortable bed, a hot shower, kitchen facilities, secure parking, wifi, and privacy. (Caution: mosquitoes and other pests are abundant. It’s the tropics.)Appreciate Terry and Michael’s hospitality. Hoping to tour their property and Michael’s art studio should we return some day.
Terry made our stay very comfortable through her personal greeting and tour of the cottage once we arrived, as well as all amenities available such as fresh eggs and bananas. The cottage and surrounding property are stunning, and her cute cat who lives on the lenai loved to hang out with us. Only wish we could have stayed longer, would stay here again!
The Cottage at Entabeni was the perfect setting for exploring the Hana area and romance. It was so peaceful watching sunrise and sunset on the porch, getting visits from the kitty, and just slowing down. We appreciated the fully stocked kitchen, bed was incredibly comfy and we had a built-in sound machine with the wind and rain noises. The property tour was a nice touch and we enjoyed our conversation with Michael about all the botany!
Our visit was so magical….it was like we were in another world! After driving the windy Road to Hana, we didn’t think it could get better…..but it did. Our stay at the Cottage was so wonderful. We felt like we were in a tropical oasis. It was so peaceful with their amazing garden and ocean view. And Terry was so great! We had fresh eggs every morning, to start our day. This place is truly a one-of-a-kind magical place! I highly recommend staying here. You won’t want to leave.
Very well cared for property. Most enjoyable.
If you are looking to stay in the Hana area, I highly recommend this beautiful piece of paradise. On a hilltop above the road to Hana surrounded by amazing gardens with beautiful views of the pacific. The Kristiansen's are gracious hosts. Close to Hana, the black sand beach, and all this side of the island has to offer.
Amazing property, wonderful experience. We will absolutely be coming back.
We had a very relaxing visit at the beautiful lush garden property of Terry & Michael’s. We explored the area around Hana, enjoying the water fall hike, swimming and embracing the laid back ambiance of Maui.Thank you, Terry & Michael, for the farm fresh eggs, vegetables , fruit and herbs.
This was the perfect end to our 9 day trip to Maui. After spending a week in Kihei, this was the perfect place to wind down and protect our sunburns, lol! Terry was so warm and inviting, accommodating and friendly! This was perfect proximity to Hana and the nearby pizza place was delish! Would absolute stay here again.
We had a wonderful week in the Entabeni cottage! The surrounding gardens are lush and beautiful, and we enjoyed Terry’s guided tour. We loved the peace and quiet, the ocean views and fresh air. And Terry and Michael were very solicitous and generous hosts. We also enjoyed our delicious fresh eggs and veggies!
We had a wonderful stay at this quaint cottage! It was the perfect retreat—quiet, relaxing, and beautifully situated. The peaceful atmosphere made it a special place, and we truly felt at home. We’ll definitely be returning!
This was a beautiful room and we loved the ocean view. We loved eating breakfast on the outside table and watching the ocean.
Property is in the rain forest off the road to Hāna. Great location for taking in the area without having to drive back to North or South Maui same day.
Incredibly beautiful property-easy to find-wonderful hosts- great resident Kat- recommend to all seeking tranquility
We had a great time staying at the cottage. Wonderful hosts who respected our privacy while also offering recommendations and making the stay special. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for something more homey than hotel. We would definitely return!
Absolutely beautiful and tranquil place to stay during our holiday. Felt like home away from home. Terry and Michael were both extremely lovely and provided us with so many fresh veggies and eggs for our few meals here. Would absolutely visit again if we end up back in the area.
We so loved our stay Enchanting would summarize our experience, and educational Would highly recommend for anyone seeking a unique restful stay
Great hosts and cute cottage. Perfect location to visit Hāna
What a wonderful place to unwind and relax for a couple of nights for us! The owner was so gracious and the property grounds are magical. Definitely recommend staying here if you want a different, non-tourist perspective of the island.
The property is amazing as well as the host. This was our second stay at the cottage and couldn’t have enjoyed it any more. If you should have the chance to book this magical location please do, you will be forever changed.
A wonderful place to stay and enjoy Maui’s lush landscape. The hosts have created a beauty, peaceful property. Wish we could have stayed an additional night!
Michael and Terry were amazing host. Everyone should stay here when in Hana. You will not regret staying at their cottage in the botanical garden. The views are picture perfect. Please walk around the garden, you will be amazed at all of the tropical plants they have. We will be back!! Thanks for welcoming us to your paradise.
If you want a relaxing trip to hana and get to stay in paradise, this is for you.
Beautiful, relaxing 4 day stay - home away from home. Gardens, sweet cottage, art, privacy, close to Hana and daily journeys. Smiles from Oregon….
I can’t describe in words what a wonderful experience it was staying at Entabeni Cottage for one day and one night in the middle of Maui’s beautiful tropical rain forest just outside of Hana with an ocean view to die for and all the peace and serenity anyone could ever ask for. Terry and Michael were wonderful hosts and provided us with a wonderful tour of their gardens. Highly recommended for sure!
The cottage was a delight. Warmly decorated, a comfortable king bed, amazing porch with expansive view of the ocean. Terry and Michael, our hosts, were terrific. We communicated with Terry several times before even leaving for Maui. We were given excellent advice. On arrival, Terry welcomed us with a tour of her amazing tropical garden. Her knowledge of plants and love for them were extraordinary. This was a very memorable stay. We would love to come back.
Terry and Micahel were excellent hosts. Terry personally made sure we were settled in, and Michael gave us a tour of their beautiful gardens. The cottage had fantastic views to the ocean. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.
An unforgettable stay with lovely hospitable hosts. Terry gave us such helpful info even before arriving at the cottage. The cottage has everything you need to prepare your meal. Thoroughly enjoyed our garden tour with Michael, a knowledgeable botanist. Look forward to coming back!
We arrived after dark so we had no idea what anything looked like when we went to bed. What a place to wake up in! The cottage felt like home immediately. And the view! Truly awesome. We found everything about it very relaxing. The rest of the property was a lot to take in. Michael and Terry have created an amazing, stunningly beautiful place. We stayed for a week. Our goals were to check out of the hectic pace and recharge. This was the perfect place for both. Each day, we took our time getting ready. Then we went to do 1 activity, took our time, had lunch. After that, we made dinner at the cottage from mostly local food. They supplied fresh eggs and some herbs. We got the rest at local shops and stands and one day we drove down to Pa'ia to visit Mana Foods (highly recommended). We ate well, slept well, and drove around slow for a few days. If that sounds like your speed, I cannot recommend this place enough.
Everything was perfect.
If you are looking to stay in a true Hawaiian tropical oasis, this is it. The owners are so down to earth and knowledgeable about the area. Our trip to Hawaii was a once in a lifetime trip and this property was different than any other place we have ever stayed in. Off the grid and stunning views. It is a hidden gem.
Tropical paradise and would definitely stay again.
