commuting between islands
My husband could get a job in Honolulu, but we are from a very rural area so I think I would prefer to live on Big Island. I have read that commuting between islands can be very expensive. Is there a less expensive way to travel between islands for people who live there?

RE: commuting between islands
Unfortunately there is no other way besides going by plane. There used to be a ferry for about a year, but it stopped operating in Hawaii. There are special rates for frequent flyers, but I'm not sure what they are. There are no special discounts for kamaaina (local residents). I'm sure it's costly to fly every day to a neighbor island for work. I knew of a few teachers at a local university on the island of Oahu who flew to Oahu twice a week from a neighbor island. But I myself wouldn't want to do it.

RE: commuting between islands
Thank you for your reply. I think we are going to pass on the Honolulu job and look for somewhere with an easier commute.
