RE: Travel Agt/Hotel industry jobs
Hi Alfie,

are you a U.S. citizen because if not, things are more complicated with work permits, etc. Otherwise, you don't have these restrictions. The tourism industry is one of the largest in Hawaii. To find a job, it is best to check the hotel/resort websites and then if they have an opening, you go and fill out an application. Or sometimes they want you to send in a resume/cover letter and they interview you directly. I myself have once applied at the Halekulani Hotel in Waikiki and I went there to fill out an application and after that I had the interview.

I don't want to disappoint you, but these kind of jobs are not well-paid. Typically you make around $10-15 an hour and expenses are high here.

Besides looking on hotel websites, you can also check craigslist and careerbuilder. Plus, you may also want to contact a local employment agency, such as Altres, Employment Specialists and Olsten Staffing Services.

If you have previous experience in the hotel/tourism industry, it should be doable to get a job in this field somewhere on Oahu, even though because of the recent economic downturn, the job situation has worsened in Hawaii and unemployment is higher than it has been in previous years.

The best is to search for a job when you are already here because it is unlikely to find a job when you are not here yet.

You may also look into local tour companies and not just hotels because tour companies also have travel agents that help with bookings, etc. But for that, you have to be familiar with what type of activities are available on the island and you should know a little bit of local culture and locations, etc.

I hope this info helps. Good luck in your job search.

Aloha,
Kaniamea
