Living Endemic Birds of Hawaii Exhibition
For those visitors to Hawaii interested in some of its unique and enchanting wildlife, there are many possibilities to experience magnificent scenes or unusual creatures first hand. However Hawaii is also home to many endangered species, so for those keen to catch a glimpse of such creatures, this weekend offers a great opportunity; with an exhibition at the Volcano Art Center in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on Hawaii’s Big Island.

The center is the setting for Marian Berger’s exhibition of original watercolor paintings of some 37 species of birds found only in Hawaii, many of which are now endangered0. Each bird is painted life-size, in the style of the famous French-American ornithologist and painter, John James Audubon. The exhibition has proven a popular attraction for visitors to the park since it opened back in January. However this weekend sees the doors close for the final time and so visitors have up until 5pm on Sunday evening to indulge themselves and take a look at these quite marvelous works, depicting some truly splendid examples of our feathered friends!

The Volcano Art Center (VAC) itself is a nonprofit, educational organization founded in 1974. As such entrance to the center is free, though a wider park entrance fee is charged ($10) and donations to the center are welcome. Alongside Marian Berger’s temporary exhibition, sits work from some 300 or so other artists, much of which is inspired by Hawaii’s volcanic landscape.

The VAC aims to promote, develop and perpetuate the artistic and cultural heritage of the Hawaiian environment and the people who live there. This exhibition not only furthers that goal but gives visitors the chance to really get to know some of Hawaii’s rarer, and more spectacular birds. So take advantage of your final chance to indulge in a quite beautiful exhibition, and head down to the Volcano Art Center in the Hawaii Volcano National Park this weekend.
