Delta 747 makes emergency landing at Midway Atoll
Even though this happened yesterday (Thursday, June 16), this story just now appeared in Hawaii's news. A Delta 747 flight from Honolulu, Hawaii, to Osaka, Japan, had to make an emergency landing at the remote Midway Atoll, which is part of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands after the pilots noticed a major crack in the windshield of the cockpit. There were 359 passengers and 19 crew members aboard the plane.

The plane landed safely at Henderson Airfield at about 5:40 pm on Thursday. Midway Atoll is a seabird refuge and part of the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument, which extends about 1,200 miles northwest from the main Hawaiian Islands. The atoll is home to many albatrosses and other seabirds.

During landing the plane hit two birds and the collision further damaged a wing flap of the plane. But it managed to land safely and everyone is ok. A second 747 plane arrived from Japan hours later with mechanics and parts to repair the plane. The second plane then flew all passengers to Japan early Friday morning at 5 am, just before sunrise when the albatrosses and other birds would begin to fly.

Here is a video of the plane landing on Midway Atoll.
