  • Hale Loko Hawaiian Pond House Private Crystal Clear Large & Deep hot pond

Hale Loko (Hawaiian for Pond House) is located on a jewel of a 90 degree Fahrenheit hot pond. Also on the property is a two bedroom two bathroom house that was completely renovated in 2012. The king bedroom has a california king sized bed and the queen bedroom has a queen sized bed.The kitchen features a dishwasher, stove with oven, microwave and refrigerator with automatic ice maker. It is fully equipped with all the tools you need for making gourmet meals to stay home at the pond. New granite countertops completed the renovation. Other amenities include toaster oven, coffee makers (drip, espresso, press), coffee grinder, blender, mini chopper, juicers, rice maker, pots and pans and other things to let you sty put in this tropical paradise. There is a Washer and Dryer as well as a large Weber Gas BBQ Grill. Unlike some rentals in the area, the house has individual DSL internet access for streaming music on your own phone or on the SONOS speakers throughout the house (sonos.com). The flat screen TV is connected to an Apple TV (apple.com) for you to Airplay from your iPhone or stream from your netflix, showtime, HBO, CNNgo and rent movies thru iTunes. There is currently no broadcast TV at the house. If you have AT&T cell service, it is available from the house. for those with other cell service such as Verizon or T Mobile, WiFi calling is possible and the land line telephone has unlimited continental USA calling. Then, there is the private hot pond. Ahhhhh. Many properties in the area will allude to ponds and swimming but this is the real deal. A private, natural pond that is one of the largest and deepest in the community. The private hot pond is 6-10 feet deep depending on the tides with crystal clear water that is geothermically heated to 90 degrees Fahrenheit by Madam Pele's fresh water hot springs. Surrounded by coconut trees, orchids and other exotic plants, the pond has sunny as well as shaded spots to relax in. Practice snorkeling in this protected pond and watch the fish swim in and out the porous walls. Because of the temperature and protected nature of the pond, you can swim in it even if the weather is windy or rainy. Or swim at night and count the stars. Not something you would be able to do in the ocean here. Please note that the pond is large and shared with an adjoining vacation rental property. If you want to swim in the ocean, access via champagne pond and Kapoho Bay is just steps away. Kapoho Beach Lots gated community is also located next to the the best snorkeling secret of Hawaii, Wai O Pae tide pools in neighboring Vacationland. This is a quiet spot where you won't be bumping into scores of other snorkelers while you use the snorkel skills perfected in our pond to see Honu (sea turtle), Purple spotted grouper, Humuhumunukunukuapua’a (Hawaii's state fish, the reef trigger fish) , Picasso trigger fish, Orangeband surgeon fish, Red lip and bullet head Parrot fish, yellow, brown, purple coral and so much more! Just a few miles down the Hawaii Heritage road, AKA 137 or the red road you'll find Alahanui public heated pond (larger but not as deep as the private pond at Hale Loko), Isaac Hale park at Pohoiki boat ramp where you can find warm swimming and surfing or hire on to one of the lava viewing boats now that the lava has reached the ocean south of Kalapana again (as of 8/16). Further down the Red Road you'll see totally uncrowded, frequently empty tropical views of the mighty blue Pacific Ocean as you drive down to mile marker 19 and the world famous Kehena Beach. Known for its fine black sand (and clothing optional) cliffside beach. Great for sightseeing, body surfing, playing in the waves and Sunday drum circle. Then at the end of the red road (actually it's been re-paved so it isn't even red anymore) there's Uncle RObert's Awa Bar. Wednesday's fro about 4pm to 10 pm it is THE happening place in lower Puna. Thousands of people show up (yes, I said thousands) for a market with prepared foods and other items for sale such as Solar's famously gaudy tie dye (actually sew dye) T shirts. It's the closest thing Lower Puna has to a Luau. Not like the touristy ones over on the voggy kona side but with local food, local dancing and local vibe. Forget about parking on the road unless you like to walk. Park at the restaurant next door if you get there early enough for a spot, otherwise t's up on the lava flow for parking. Bring a flashlight to get back to your car.

  • COME FIND "HEAVEN ON EARTH"

" Lani mai Honua Hale" translates to Heaven on Earth. That is what we hope you will find when you unlock the front door of our beautiful "old Hawaiian" home and walk in. This is a good time to take a few seconds and stop, set your bags down, take a deep breath and let your soul catch up a little. Think of this as more than just a vacation..... This house was originally built in the early seventies at a time when neighbors were few and far between in this part of the island. We purchased it in 2014 after it had sat vacant for many years. For the next three years we completely renovated it from top to bottom updating every surface while honoring its original Hogan style design. Along the way we salvaged and repurposed everything we could and incorporated those things into its current incarnation. Everything is designed to make your time here as comfortable as possible. We have gone out of our way to provide all the simple comforts to make your stay as easy and relaxing as it can be. When you get here, take off your shoes, grab an ice cold drink from the fridge and walk out to the Lanai. The tidal pond from the picture is right there. Go down and sit on the steps and put your feet in the water. Your vacation just started. Enjoy! Mahalo, Bill & Linda

  • Elegant Cottage, Ocean View, Swimming, Bikes, Free WiFi, No Mosquitoes

The Lite House is a small, quality home with comfortable, high-end furnishings and appliances, in a private and quiet section of a gated community. This home is the perfect place for a couple who wants their privacy, and also just a bit of luxury. It could also accommodate a small family (four maximum). The queen-size, 12" memory foam bed has high thread-count cotton sheets for cool, comfortable sleeping. In the living room, the inner-spring futon converts into a double bed. The Lite House is located at the far end of the subdivision, with sparsely scattered neighbors. It is touched on three sides by a fifty-seven year-old lava flow, which is now Hawaii State land as is all land newly formed by lava on the Island. There is nothing between the Lite House and the ocean but expansive lava field and horizon-to-horizon open sky. This combination allows for both unobstructed refreshing trade winds and exceptional privacy within this subdivision. It also showcases spectacular, panoramic sunrises and star gazing. Prior to the 1960 lava flow, the Lite House property was ocean-front. You might say that it is still an 'ocean-front' property, but now it's a quarter mile walk to reach the rugged shoreline (scroll down to see revealing satellite photos). The occasional dramatic crashing wave can be seen and heard from inside the Lite House. From the Lite House, you can see the Cape Kumukahi Lighthouse in the distance. Its faint beacon adds nighttime charm while it monitors the cleanest air in the northern hemisphere blowing in from off the ocean. These pleasant trade winds are almost always present, and come right through the house when you have the doors and windows open. Enjoy being outside, any time, and with no mosquitoes! At night, the sound of occasional Coqui frogs is a distant and mild serenade. Champagne Pond, the secluded, geothermally- heated cove exclusive to this subdivision, is a 4- minute walk from the cottage. Here you can snorkel with the sea turtles and fish, or simply float around on the calm, exceptionally clean and clear water. Serious lap swimmers have also found Champagne Pond to be quite suitable. In the adjacent neighborhood are the Kapoho Tide Pools (aka the Wai'Opae Marine Preserve), known for world-class snorkeling. We provide basic snorkel gear and boogie boards for your use. If you enjoy bicycling, we make two bikes available to explore this scenic area. The terrain is mostly level, and with very little traffic. Kapoho Beach is a very bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly community. The marine preserve is about a fifteen-minute bicycle ride from the house, or you may drive to the parking area and then walk the last quarter of a mile to it. Free WiFi is provided, as well as free long distance telephone calls to Canada and the U.S. Note: We did not design this nice little house, but we named it the 'Lite House' because it is best suited for normal-size folks. Consequently, we regret that it may not be comfortable for 'extra-plus' sized guests. Keywords: house, home, cottage, bungalow

BE AWARE OF SCAMMERS. OUR HOUSE HAS BEEN ADVERTISED ON CRAIGSLIST FOR A DISCOUNTED RATE BY UNSCRUPULOUS PEOPLE JUST LOOKING TO STEAL MONEY. WE DO NOT ADVERTISE ON CRAIGSLIST!!! Our son is a Los Angeles Architect and he designed this beautiful oceanfront retirement home that looks like it is off the pages of Architectural Digest. There is a curved staircase with Mango steps that leads from the living room to the 2nd bedroom and on to the master bedroom and loft. Our home has 2 bedrooms and a loft, 2 baths and sleeps 6. The Master bedroom is on the 2nd floor and is a loft room allowing the view of the ocean from the queen size bed. The ponds are brackish (which means that they are a combination of fresh and salt water) and are home to a large school of Tilapia fish which love to be fed. There are stranded bamboo hardwood floors throughout the house, mango custom cabinetry, unique floor plan and awe inspiring views which make this a perfect vacation home for anyone that wants to hear the waves, watch the whale’s jump, have world class snorkeling 40 ft from the front door and experience the most glorious sunrises imaginable.

  • Oceanfront Home: Spectacular View, Snorkel & Swim from Yard

The CORAL POOL HOUSE, 'Kaheka Ko'a,' is a newer (2008) OCEANFRONT HOME with snorkeling and swimming in your backyard. It is directly on the shore of the WAI'OPAE STATE MARINE PRESERVE (Kapoho Tide Pools). Kapoho is a small, quiet rural community on the Big Island, near Hilo and 40 miles from Volcanoes National Park. The home has an awe-inspiring view of the 50-acre marine preserve and beyond. **DISCOUNTS available - see Rates** IN YOUR STAY AT THE CORAL POOL HOUSE YOU MAY EXPERIENCE: * Unparalleled panoramic ocean views of coastline, marine preserve, reef, sea and night sky. * Snorkeling in an extensive natural aquarium with a rainbow of fish and coral. * Swimming and floating in tranquil pools. * Modern accommodations in a new home (2008), including whirlpool hot tub and WiFi. * Tropical scenery of the rural Puna coast. * Clouds of stars in the night sky. OCEAN VIEW: The Coral Pool House captures an expansive ocean view from its shoreline location. The living area, bedrooms, lanais (covered decks) and hot tub all have a panoramic ocean view. You can catch the natural rhythms of the day: sunrise, clouds painting the skies, tidal flows, waves crashing on the outer reef, passing whales (December - April), and sunsets while relaxing in the living area, beds, shaded lanais or whirlpool hot tub. MARINE PRESERVE: The shoreline location of the Coral Pool House provides easy access from its grounds into the tranquil waters of the Wai'Opae (why-o-pie) Marine Life Conservation District for snorkeling, swimming and floating. The marine preserve is one of only 11 in the Hawaiian Islands. The preserves were established to protect the unique marine life of these special places. Wai'Opae preserve has among the greatest density and diversity of marine life of all the Hawaii preserves. The coral and fish-laden pools are home to 11 coral and over 100 fish species, and the endangered green sea turtle. To quote the popular 'Big Island Hawaii Snorkeling Guide' (authored by two biologist who have snorkeled throughout the world), Wai'Opae marine preserve is '... a unique and fantastic snorkeling spot. ... one of the best snorkeling areas in the world... The pools are gorgeous. The visibility is usually stellar. The corals are diverse, colorful and in incredible health. The fish are abundant and diverse as well. Everything is up close and personal. It really is a wonderful experience.' SNORKELING and SWIMMING: The grounds of the Coral Pool House meet the sea where you can slip into its tranquil coral pools. The pools offer fabulous snorkeling, for the beginner to the experienced. The inner pools are calm 360 days a year due to the protective outer reef. Thermally heated fresh water seeps into these inner pools, making them noticeably warmer. They are ideal for swimming in, as well as snorkeling, or for those who just wish to float and relax. Outer pools may be enjoyed by the more experienced snorkeler, offering greater density of corals and some fish species not seen in the inner pools. Large predators (like sharks) are absent due to the shallow barrier reef. The outdoor solar shower offers a warm rinse when exiting the pools. On the grounds of the home is a shallow warm pool (80-85 degrees), great for those experiencing snorkeling for the first time or for kids to play in. Children may be observed at play from inside the home, the lanais or patio. We provide some snorkeling equipment (masks & snorkels), boogie boards and information on marine life that you will encounter. NEW OCEANFRONT HOME: The Coral Pool House offers the comfort of a MODERN FULLY APPOINTED HOME while taking in its exquisite natural setting. All rooms and the upper lanai have open beam ceilings. Family dining may be enjoyed indoors or on the lanai. The ocean breeze keeps the home mosquito free. The covered ground-level patio, near water's-edge, is an enjoyable place for a picnic. Meals can be prepared in the modern fully appointed kitchen (granite counters, cherry wood cabinets) and on the lanai's BBQ. The whirlpool tub is a wonderful place to relax and 'soak' in the view. The home's bedrooms have new quality beds and en-suite baths, with a deep soaking tub in the master bathroom. The master bedroom has a king bed. The second bedroom has both a queen and double bed. The home also has wireless internet, phone, satellite LCD flat screen TV (pause/record options), DVD, CD, stereo, cards, board games, videos and books for your enjoyment. The home's caretaker lives nearby, in the community, and is available if you need assistance. LOCAL ATTRACTIONS: Tropical landscapes offer stunning scenic drives along the coast, cascading waterfalls and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. If you can pull yourself away from the Coral Pool House, a drive along the SCENIC PUNA COAST is not to be missed (beginning one mile from the house). Nearby, there are several other scenic drives, hikes and parks, including a large thermally heated swimming pond (2 miles). The historic village of Pahoa, with shopping, groceries, fresh fish and farmers markets, and restaurants, is 10 miles away. A 40-mile drive takes you to Volcanoes Park, with its active volcano. Other volcanic features may be experienced closer to Kapoho, such as: Lava Tree Park (7 miles) and Kalapana (15 miles), where lava is flowing into the sea. Although tropical, Kapoho has the least rain in east Hawaii. We also enjoy some of the cleanist air in the world. The area is served by the Hilo International Airport (29 miles). Hilo has many options for shopping, dining and entertainment. You may view several picturesque waterfalls on the Waianuenue River, which flows through Hilo. Further information on the Coral Pool House (Kaheka Ko'a), the Wai'Opae marine preserve and local attractions will be provided following your booking. In addition, for those that stay with us, we are pleased to help you with your travel plans, based on our local knowledge.
