Hilo Shopping Center, Big Island
The Hilo Shopping Center features a quaint atmosphere and is making a comeback in popularity as most of the stores are local and unique. One of the most notable shops is Lanky's Pastries for fresh cookies, cakes and baked goodies. Another popular store is the Hilo market, which has loads of fresh flowers, fruits and vegetables at low prices. The market also carries clothing, decorative items, musical instruments and household items.
Local residents also love Kope Kope, Hilo's leading coffee shop, which is known not only for their delicious coffee and fresh beans, but for the ambiance. If you get hungry after shopping, Restaurant Miwa is a great choice for traditional Japanese food. Their best foods are their noodle dishes and the “bento box” meals, which are served in small compartments to sample a variety of foods. Seafood specials and sushi are also good.
