Overview
Nestled within the lush burgeoning lei garden pond area, this immersive activity invites you to explore the art of lei making under the guidance of the knowledgeable instructors. As you select foraged flowers and foliage sourced from the gardens and local growers, you'll discover the significance behind the blooms, the lei making and the celebrations that we use lei in all year round. Whether you’re a seasoned lei maker or this is your first time, we welcome all levels of lei makers! Each participant will craft their own lei po'o (Hawaiian flower crown) using time-honored techniques passed down through generations across Polynesia. Selected to the Hawaii Tourism Authority Regenerative Experiences Program develop and enhance visitor experiences that are deeply rooted in the principles of regenerative tourism.
Itinerary
Spend a peaceful morning in the lei garden creating your own lei po‘o with the experienced guides.
This is not your typical simple, quick lei-making workshop.
This is a deeper dive into the plants of lei making.
You’ll learn about beautiful, freshly-harvested native and introduced materials from the lei garden to create your own work to take with you.
To start the morning, the friendly, experienced guides will take you on a tour of the lei garden.
Smell, touch and learn about what is in bloom.
Discover what makes these local plants so special and their role in the tradition of Hawaiian lei.
Join the covered, outdoor lei table and explore a spread of freshly harvested greenery and flowers.
You’ll learn the wili style of lei making, with more advanced techniques (we’re talking far beyond stringing orchids!) including braiding and more.
You’ll finish the experience with your own, unique completed lei poʻo (head crown) created with the fresh plants you’ve discovered.
Take beautiful photos in the garden and enjoy wearing your creation around the island.

Meeting & Logistics
Continue through the gate at Common Ground and park in lot on the left. Walk up the driveway and following the concrete path to the Ti House where our hosts will greet you.
Special Instructions
After parking in lot to the left of driveway, walk up the driveway until you reach a concrete path on the left. Follow the bath to the Ti House at the bottom of the path. Check in with your guide in the Ti House.
