Located on Waikiki Beach at the Outrigger Reef Hotel, the Shore Bird Restaurant & Beach Bar has been a popular gathering place for tourists and residents alike for more than 30 years. What makes this restaurant unique is that you are not served your food cooked, but you are grilling your own meat or fish entrees spiced and cooked just the way you like them on a large community grill. There is an experienced grill helper if you need assistance.

This is how this unique dining experience works: Your server will bring your dinner entree choice (steak or seafood) to your table fresh on a platter with instructions how to prepare it. Then you spice it and grill it to your liking. All entrees include the all-you-can-eat salad bar, which includes more than 25 items, such as fresh greens, garnishes, fruits, tako poke, poi, haupia, rice, bread and pasta. If you are vegetarian you can skip the grilling experience and just order the salad bar.

The restaurant also features an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet (from 7 am to 11 am) and lunch buffet (from 12 pm to 3 pm). The breakfast buffet includes coffee, juices, carved honey-glazed ham, roast turkey, fish, hash browns, fried rice and pastries. For lunch you can enjoy a lunch buffet or off the menu items that start from 11 am and are available till 1 am. Some popular items are kalua pig sandwich, ahi tacos and fish and chips.

The restaurant has a bar with more than 25 seats near the ocean. The drink menu features domestic and imported beers, wine and refreshing tropical cocktails.

The Shore Bird also offers nightly live entertainment starting at 5 pm and free nightly karaoke with over 10,000 songs to choose from starting at 9:30 pm till closing.

The Shore Bird is an affordable restaurant in Waikiki and dinner entree rates range from $15-$30 per person. Local brochures and magazines that are available at street racks for free frequently include discount coupons for dining at the Shore Bird. The restaurant also features a happy hour.

Since this place is so popular, it is often times crowded, so you may have to wait to be seated, especially if you want an oceanfront table. If you are a vegetarian, it might be a good idea if you request to be seated away from the grill where it can get smoky.
