Nohea Gallery, Oahu
The Nohea Gallery is home to original artworks and handmade gifts from some of Hawaii's celebrated artists. Opened in 1990, the gallery features a variety of inspiring gifts from Hawaiian gold and silver ti leaf rings and paintings to turned wood bowls and sculptures that can only be found on Hawaii, each echoing the inspiration of the local artists.
Some items in the Nohea Gallery tell a story, like their ti leaf jewelry, said to bring grace to their bearers, and were originally introduced to the island by ancient Hawaiian navigators. Other items like the koa lanterns illuminate any room and bring a cheery Hawaiian glow to their surroundings. The gallery's wares are all representative of the local culture and the island lifestyle.
The small, family-owned business represents over 450 artists, and about 90% of those crafts workers and artists reside and work in Hawaii. Nohea Galleries are around Oahu in a variety of locations, such as at the Sheraton Waikiki, the Ward Warehouse and the Westin Moana Hotel.
Nohea Gallery also hosts the Annual Honolulu Woodturners shows, craft projects such as “eyelash leis” and painting demonstrations by their featured artists. These events are available to the general public and are free of charge.
