One of Hawaii's oldest hotels, the Royal Hawaiian (see more photos) opened its doors with a grand ceremony in 1927. Having re-opened in January 2009 after a Starwood group led refurbishment this 528 suite landmark is once again attracting many guests. The hotel is known for its distinctive Moorish-style architecture complete with pink finish.
The refurbished rooms feature a traditional style with dark wood set against crisp white linens. Warm color schemes are generally used to create a tasteful ambience. However, the bathrooms are rather small for such a luxury resort.
The entire pool area has been completely re-done as well. Also, the hotel has a private section of Waikiki Beach including loungers. For dining, a choice of two restaurants and a separate cocktail bar serve up a collection of local and international dishes.
The hotel also offers a range of services and spaces for hire for corporate meetings or weddings and social engagements. Furthermore, the excellent Abhasa Spa at the Royal Hawaiian was awarded 5th place in the exclusive list of America's Top 50 Spas 2010 by Spas of America.
