Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, Oahu
The "First Lady of Waikiki" as the Moana Surfrider is sometimes referred to, is one of Waikiki's historic hotels. First opened in 1901 (the first hotel on Waikiki Beach), the hotel was rebranded as A Westin Resort & Spa in 2007. This saw a revamp of the lobby area with hardwood floors, new furniture and lighting fixtures giving the place a modern touch, while retaining its charming sense of authenticity.
Within the rooms, emphasis is again on providing modern comforts, without losing the traditional aspects of Hawaiian style and décor. The usual amenities present in up-market hotels are available in all Moana Surfrider rooms. These include cable television, air-conditioning, a refrigerator and a coffee maker. The resort has three wings - Diamond, Banyan and Tower. Rooms range from 222 to 348 square feet in size and the suites are 788 square feet.
One of the Moana Surfrider's best features is that it houses Waikiki's first and so far only beachfront spa. The 17,000 square foot Moana Lani Spa has 16 treatment rooms (including two couple's suites) and a Westin Workout fitness facility that is accessible 24 hours a day.
Of the resort's various dining and refreshment options, one of the most popular is the resort's afternoon tea, which is served daily on the spacious veranda. Evenings see live entertainment in the courtyard and bar area.
The Moana Surfrider also boasts a 10,782 square foot space for meetings, functions or weddings. Various in-house entertainment options can be reserved for such occasions.
