This is Hawaii's newest resort, which is scheduled to open its doors on August 29, 2011. Located on Oahu's southwestern shore in the Ko Olina development (about an hour west of Waikiki), the oceanfront resort includes 359 hotel rooms and 481 timeshare vacation villas.
It is a family-friendly vacation destination, with many exciting things to do for kids. There is a large saltwater snorkeling lagoon with fish, a river for tube floating, an aquatic play structure and programs for children. For adults, there's an 18,000 square-foot spa, pools and hot tubs, a conference center and outdoor venues. The resort will also have on-site restaurants.
The Aulani Resort is Disney's first major standalone resort away from a theme park. Disney chose a Hawaiian name for its Oahu resort. “Aulani” in Hawaiian means “the place that speaks for the great ones” or “the place that speaks with deep messages.”
