There is nothing sugarcoated in Kekuhi Kanahele’s music and if you
are looking for the easy listening Hawaiian sounds that make a good
background to a Mai Tai and a sunset you should look further.
Kekuhi’s music is an experience and can open the door for you to a
deeper understanding of Hawaiian history, culture and the spirit of
the people.
Kekuhi was born into a family with generations of spirited
musicians, chanters, singers and dancers. A family with one of the
oldest, deepest and proudest lineages in all of Hawaii.
The musical traditions of Hawaii have always been the center of her
life. No wonder, because she is the granddaughter of legendary kumu
hula, Hawaiian scholar and composer Edit Kanakaole. Kekuhi is the
mother of a new rising star, the impressive and incomparable
Kaumakaiwa “Lopaka” Kanakaole. Kekuhi has released two CDs “Hahani
Mai” and “Kekuhi”.
