Getting Around on Molokai There is no public
transportation system on Molokai and taxis are limited,
too, so if you want to see the island, you need to rent
a car. However, rental cars are scarce, so it's best to
reserve your car in advance, especially if you're going
over the weekend.
Free racks for bikes, kayaks and surfboards are
available. Car rental companies include AA Aloha
Cars-R-Us, Dollar Rent A Car and Hawaii Discount Car
Rentals (available at the airport). Mopeds and bicycles
can also be rented.
As for taxis, there aren't any metered ones, but a few
provide services for set fees. Taxis sometimes meet
incoming flights, but if you want to be sure to catch
one, you should reserve one in advance.
Driving on Molokai is easy. There are no traffic jams
and it's hard to get lost as there is only one major
highway that crosses the island from east to west. A
couple of roads lead off of it for short distances. |
