Umalu is a poolside bar and restaurant located at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. In Hawaiian, the word Umalu means “the shade cast by a cliff” and, in this case, it means those visiting this venue get a little respite from the heat. The environment at Umalu is casual and relaxing, and it is a place where visitors can enjoy some contemporary Hawaiian cuisine. Overlooking the nearby islands of Molokai and Lanai, the atmosphere is further enhanced by the live entertainment in the bar every night.
Umalu serves lunch, dinner and refreshing drinks every day. On offer are a selection of freshly-prepared salads, light pupus, creatively-filled sandwiches, and tasty entrées. The “Uncle Kimo’s Ahi Poke Nachos” are a tasty local favorite and very popular with guests. Pizzas are also available from both the lunch and dinner menus and the dinner menu even has a “create your own” dinner option. Where possible, dishes are created using ingredients that have been sourced locally – on Maui and throughout the rest of the Hawaiian Islands. An extensive drinks menu is available from the bar. This features a host of cool, refreshing creations. Beverages on offer include a range of traditional and frozen cocktails and smoothies, as well as a selection of wines and beers. The Lava Flow, classic Mai Tai (both signature libations from the bar) have proved very popular with guests, as have the Mutiny on the Carthaginian, the Ka‘anapali Sunburn, the Banana Mango Rush and the Chocolate Relapse (all of which are Umalu signature drinks).
Umalu is open daily for food – from Monday through to Sunday - from 11.00am until 11.00pm. The bar is also open seven days a week - from 10.00am until midnight - with a happy hour from 5.00pm until 6.00pm. With the relatively informal poolside environment and a generally relaxed atmosphere, casual attire is permitted.
