Kauai Children's Discovery Museum, Kauai

This museum is an exciting way to introduce children of all ages to the island of Kauai. The interactive exhibits teach science, art and technology while emphasizing the history and culture of the island. Adults and teens will also find plenty to entertain themselves, and there's a room just for infants and toddlers.

The museums newest exhibit, “The Sea Chest Secret,” challenges children to identify the author of a sailor's diary from the 1700s. While investigating this maritime mystery, children learn about sealife, 18th century Kauai and what the life of an explorer was like. Exhibits also cover the island's natural history, plants and animals.

In the craft room kids can print on a traditional Hawaiian cloth, paint a reef fish or try their hand at Hawaiian instruments. They can stargaze in the “StarLab” planetarium or curl up with a book in the “magic tree house.” There's even a kid-sized keiki village made up of homes representing all the different lifestyles found on the island. The past, present and future of Kauai come to life in this hands-on museum.
