Kauai Inn at a Glance

Experience Kauai Inn’s more than a century of Aloha hospitality. This hotel for the budget-minded is managed by the McKnight family, who has been providing convenience and comfort to travelers and transient families for several generations now. Guests at Kauai Inn receive spacious and spick-and-span clean rooms with King- or Queen-size bed, and views of lush Haupa Mountain. Every room accentuates your island feel with its Hawaii-style décor. Get the king patio room and enjoy tropical breezes and vistas from the veranda.

Among Kauai Inn’s pride is its rich history. It was the very first hotel to be built on the island of Kauai. In the 1960s, Donovan’s Reef star John Wayne and other casts used to hang out here. Kauai Inn was also the site of the 1991 Miss Kauai beauty contest. Originally, the hotel was called the Fairview Hotel and had undergone several renovations and improvements over the years. In 1992, Hurricane Iniki ravaged Kauai leaving the hotel partly destroyed. When the McKnight family purchased the hotel from its previous owners, the hotel was roofless! The family commissioned its rebuilding, and after nearly 10 years of renovation, Kauai Inn re-opened in 2001. The plantation-style Kauai Inn has 48 units and still evokes that quaint Hawaiian charm.

Located at the mouth of the Huleia River where Nawiliwili Bay ends, the 3-acre tropical paradise is conveniently nestled in the heart of activities that run the gamut from swimming to charter fishing, kayaking, diving, and golfing. It is also just minutes away from shopping centers, restaurants, the Lihue Airport, and beaches including Kalapaki Beach, Brennecke’s Beach, and Ke’e Beach.

All rooms are available at modest prices. Guests are treated to simple luxuries including a small refrigerator, hair dryer, cable television, ironing board, telephone, and internet access.
