Anahola Beach Park Photos
Anahola Beach Park, Kauai
South of Anahola Bay, the local favorite Anahola Beach Park has something suitable for everyone. Located on the eastern shoreline of Kauai, approximately ½ mile (800 m) from Mile Marker 13 on Anahola Road, Anahola Beach is considered the safest beach on the windward coast Kauai. The white-sand beach is protected from high surf by a reef. The nearshore ocean bottom has a few pockets of sand, so even kids can swim here. There is a surf break at the outer edge of the reef.
Near the mouth of the Anahola River, the beach is less protected and has a shorebreak that’s ideal for bodyboarding. The center part of the beach is a no-board area; surfers should head to the northern side, the only area where it’s allowed to surf. Anahola Beach Park is also a noted place for offshore snorkeling and diving for beginners. However, extra caution should be taken near the river mouth because rip currents are strong here.
The 0.42-mile-long (600-m-long) shoreline also offers a view of the Kalalea Mountains and with the Anahola River flowing behind it, some nice photo opportunities as well. Ironwood trees fringe the back of the shoreline, providing beachgoers and picnickers plenty of shade. Children frolicking at the nearby Anahola River and locals pole fishing at the river are also a common sight here.
Surrounded by the Hawaiian Home Lands, which make up the town Anahola, the beach park also has the only campground on the eastern coast of Kauai. There are no cabins, but plenty of tents for rent. In the summer, the beach park can be pretty crowded with tents and campers.
