Wailua Falls at a Glance
Wailua Falls in southeastern Kauai is an 80-foot (24.4 m) waterfall.
If it looks familiar, it is because it was part of
the opening scenes of the popular TV series Fantasy Island.
The best time to visit Waimea Falls is in the morning when
the sun is shining on the waterfall. No need to bring your hiking shoes and equipment because
you can see Wailua Falls from the road.
There is a very
steep and slippery hiking trail that leads to the pool below.
If you’re an avid hiker, you may enjoy the climb and a dip
in the cool mountain water.
To hike down to the base of the waterfall, look for the turnout that's located about a quarter mile (400 m) before the main viewpoint. It is not advised to walk down the trail that is at the main viewpoint due to dangerous conditions.
