Welcome to Norway
Deep fjords, dramatic mountains, ice blue glaciers, offshore islands
and forests make up most of Norway - a country full of natural
wonders and spectacular scenery. From lively beach towns in the
south to Hammerfest, the world's northernmost town - the "Land of
the Midnight Sun" has a lot to offer.
Oslo, Norway's capital, is not really an architectural gem, but
nevertheless worth a visit. There are plenty of museums, statues and
green parks. The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded here each year. One of
the city's highlights is the Bygdoy Peninsula with its Viking ships
and folk museum.
The central part of the country is the main tourist destination.
This is where the highest mountains and largest glaciers and fjords
are located. Here you'll also find plenty of national parks and
resorts. One of the best parks is Jotunheimen, which boasts an
abundance of hiking trails, lakes and waterfalls.
For the ultimate off the beaten track adventure, venture north of
the Arctic Cycle, an area that is much less populated and visited.
This is where the treeless Arctic tundra begins. At the Svalbard
archipelago, you can say hello to the walruses, polar bears and
seals, which chill out on the icebergs here.
The northern part of the country is often times called the "Land of
the Midnight Sun" because in summer, the sun doesn't set at all.
This gives you plenty of time for some great long wilderness hikes.
And if you're more into winter sports such as skiing, you'll find
excellent opportunities year-round.
