Welcome to the Isle of Man
This small island, located in the middle of the Irish Sea between
England and Ireland can easily be overlooked. But it's well worth a
visit. It's almost unbelievable that such a variety of landscapes,
flora, fauna and activities fit on only 572 km2 (141,344 acres) of
land.
The capital of Douglas is a thriving city and serves as a hub of
many island activities, sights and attractions. There are plenty of
shops, restaurants, theaters, nightclubs and other entertainment for
people of all ages.
The Isle of Man boasts a fascinating natural landscape. From
towering sea cliffs, sand dunes, marshes, secluded coves, uncrowded
beaches, wild flower meadows, bluebell woods and open grasslands, to
vast areas of purple moorland - here you can get away from it all.
No matter what you're planning to do, go on endless walks in
solitude or explore the culture by visiting interesting sights and
attractions - it's all possible.
It's not only all nature here. You'll also find medieval castles,
Victorian railways and trams, museums, heritage centers,
opportunities for golf, archery, air rifle shooting, kayaking,
swimming, diving, fishing, sailing, mountain biking, pony trekking
and road racing events. Or take a boat trip, spend a day at sea and
watch marine animals in their natural habitat. There's a great
variety of wildlife to observe, from basking sharks to seals.
Bird-watching is another fun thing to do on the Isle of Man, which
is home to many different bird species, such as puffins, Manx
shearwaters, hen harriers, choughs, peregrines and long- and
short-eared owls.
