I noticed about an hour ago that there’s a power outage in Honolulu, in the Ala Moana area. My neighborhood still has power, but other parts in Ala Moana don’t have power. Police are out right now directing traffic. I tried to find information about this power outage online, but there’s no news about it on any news site. Read More →
Downtown Honolulu is a busy business center. Many Hawaii business offices are located here. Visit the Hawaii State Library and Honolulu Hale and much more. Below are some photos of Downtown Honolulu. Enjoy! ... [Read more]
I just saw a horrible accident. It happened at around 8 pm, Saturday, October 4, 2008, at the intersection of Mahukona Street and Kapiolani Boulevard in Honolulu. I just came out of a restaurant and waited at a traffic light. At that time, a charter bus from the company Superstar was turning right and suddenly I heard a loud bang. At first I thought that it hit another car. When I crossed the street, I could see the front of the bus and saw a man or woman lying under the front of the bus. I didn’t look closer, but I think it was a person in a wheelchair, who was crossing while green. The bus driver didn’t see the person. The bus would have only been allowed to turn right in case there is... [Read more]
Address: 1450 Ala Moana Blvd Honolulu, HI 96814 View Map The Barnes & Noble Bookstore in Ala Moana is located on the ground floor of the Ala Moana Shopping Center. It is open from 9 am until 11 pm daily (except for holidays). It is a favorite place among locals because there are comfortable couches you can sit on and read, and there is a café area where you can buy sandwiches, coffee, tea and cookies. Occasionally, special events take place here, for example story readings for children. The bookstore gets crowded on weekends, so the best place to visit is early in the morning on weekdays. I was there yesterday and bought a new book. It’s called The David Icke Guide to Global Conspiracy.... [Read more]
The Ala Wai Canal (view map) flows along the Honolulu neighborhoods of Waikiki, Ala Moana, McCully and Moiliili. It starts near the Ala Wai Golf Club (near Kapahulu Avenue) and flows into the ocean at the Ala Wai Boat Harbor. The canal is a popular spot for kayaking. Every day you can see many kayakers passing by. The Ala Wai Canal pictures you see below are taken at the end of the canal near the harbor, where it flows into the ocean. This area is one of the best places in Honolulu to live because is relatively hidden from the city noise, it has a park area and it is right on the canal and about a four-minute walk from Ala Moana Beach and shopping center. Yesterday (05-26-2008) was Memorial Day and the annual lantern floating ceremony took place at Ala Moana Beach Park in Honolulu. This year it was the 10th anniversary of this lantern floating celebration. It has become a tradition for Oahu’s residents to pay respect to the ones who did the “ultimate sacrifice” in wars they fought for the United States. The lanterns are set afloat into the ocean and they float along the shore until the ceremony is over. Each lantern represents a killed hero. Last night there were over 1600 lanterns floating on the ocean at Ala Moana Park. It is a beautiful sight. I took some pictures you can see if you scroll down. As you can see, the park was... Honolulu Harbor (view map) is located right next to the Aloha Tower Marketplace. Every day many people come to the harbor because many ocean cruises depart from here. Also, the marketplace is a great place to go shopping for local residents and tourists alike because there are many unique shops and several good restaurants. If you visit the harbor for the first time, it might be easy to overlook one of the best things to see here… the beautiful tropical fish that live right in the harbor. It’s amazing that in a busy city harbor like this one the water can be so crystal clear. To see the fish, go to the wall near the main entrance, right in front of the cruise ship “Star... [Read more]
Honolulu is a beautiful city and besides its beaches, you will discover that there is much more to do and see. On this page I am going to take you on a small Honolulu virtual tour with some photos I have taken. This is Kawaiahao Church (there is a bigger church building next to this one, but personally I think this one looks cuter). Iolani Palace - the only royal palace in the United States. Honolulu Hale. Honolulu State Library - this is a favorite place for locals to chill. Downtown Honolulu - this is the area where most of Hawaii’s businesses are located. Also, one of Hawaii’s largest universities, Hawaii Pacific University, is located here. And this is Waikiki and its newly... [Read more]

My dream has always been to come to Hawaii. I remember when I first was introduced (so to say) to the Internet, my first impulse was to search for Hawaii photos, and I did so. I remember the first pics that came up on the web were images from the Bishop Square in Honolulu. I liked it so much, so I printed those and put them under the glass of my desk in my room. I said to myself “One day I will go there”. And I really did. Here I am now in Hawaii with a dream that came true. I know one thing, when there is a wish, there is a way. I used to work in the area of Bishop Square so I was passing by every day at least once. Often times I sat under the big trees there and ate lunch. Bishop Square... [Read more]
I and my friend made a Honolulu city tour today and we visited the following locations – Forster Botanical Garden, Chinatown, Honolulu Hale, the Hawaii State Library and the Mission Houses Museum. It was a pretty good tour and we got the chance to walk a lot. First we stopped at the Forster Botanical Garden. Luckily we did not have to pay an entrance fee today because there was a plant sale going on, so they let us in free. The place is pretty cool and there are many tropical palm trees, plants and other trees. Each one was labeled with a small green sign which was either stuck to the tree or on the ground right in front of it. There were many species from all over the world, including Africa,...
