The Gazebo in Napili, Maui, Review

The Gazebo is a small breakfast/lunch restaurant located at the Napili Shores resort hotel, overlooking the beautiful Napili Bay. Even though its location is idyllic, I personally don’t recommend the place. The Gazebo is the only breakfast and lunch restaurant in the whole area and it is very busy. I went early in the morning before the restaurant opened and I was surprised to see that there were already people standing in line. The reason I decided to go to the Gazebo was because everybody recommended it to me and especially their specialty dish – macadamia nut pancakes. So I went and I waited in line until I was seated. I got a good table with a view to Napili Bay. I ordered... [Read more]

Assaggio Italian restaurant, Honolulu

Address: 1450 Ala Moana Blvd # 125, Honolulu, HI (808) 942-3446‎ View Map Assaggio is a popular Italian restaurant in Honolulu, located in the Ala Moana Shopping Center and since I live close to the center, I visit the restaurant once in a while. The prices there are a little higher than other Italina restaurants, such as the Old Spaghetti Factory but it is a classy restaurant. Since this is an Italian restaurant you may think they have a wide selection of pizzas to choose from, but in fact they don’t serve any pizzas there. Instead they have variety of pasta dishes with vegetables, shrimp, chicken, sea food, marinara Sauce, meat sauce and more. They also serve lasagnas with meat souse... [Read more]

Bubba Gump in Ala Moana Shopping Center, Honolulu review and beyond

I just came back from the Bubba Gump restaurant at Ala Moana Shopping Center in Honolulu. I decided to write this review while I have my experience from the restaurant still fresh. Ok, I did not go there today because I planned to. I first wanted to go to the next door Mai Tai Bar but it was crowded (recently it is always crowded when I want to go there), so I had to choose between California Pizza, Island Burgers, Romano’s Macaroni Grill and the Bubba Gump. I often times go to California Pizza, Island Burgers and Romano’s Macaroni Grill, so I decided to go to the Bubba Gump for a change. It was not my first time at Bubba Gump, but it is my first time I will write review on it. Well,... [Read more]

Gordon Biersch Honolulu Restaurant – pros and cons

1 Aloha Tower Dr # 1123 Honolulu, HI 96813 (808) 599-4877 View Map Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant is located at the Honolulu Harbor at the Aloha Tower Marketplace. It is located right next to the ocean. From here you can see the coming and departing ships and enjoy beautiful ocean and sunset views (if you come in the right time for it). Sand Island, a peninsula, makes for a nice backdrop. I have been to Gordon Biersch many times already and what I like is that you can choose your own table rather than being seated by a server. If you want to sit at a nice oceanfront table, go during the week. Fridays and Saturdays are usually busy. Sometimes big groups have parties there too, so it can... [Read more]

Restaurant Row in Honolulu

Address: 500 Ala Moana Blvd Honolulu, HI 96813 View Map Restaurant Row is a popular business and entertainment center in Honolulu, Oahu. It is located on Ala Moana Blvd near Honolulu downtown. The place has several office buildings built in a circle and in the middle of it is an open area where there is a bar, food tables, palm trees, gardens, a movie theatre and of course restaurants. I used to work in that area several years ago and I happened to pass by today again – Saturday July 5th in the afternoon. Despite its name “Restaurant Row,” all the restaurants were closed but Subway! So if you wanted to eat something, you would not find anything else but a subway sandwich, where there... [Read more]

Flavors of Honolulu Festival, 2008

If you love food and you live in Honolulu or you visit Honolulu in June, you should not miss the Flavors of Honolulu annual festival, a three-day event that takes place at the Honolulu Civic Center Grounds, across from the Mission Houses Museum in downtown Honolulu. Yesterday, June 28, 2008, was my second visit to the Flavors of Honolulu. My first one was a year ago in June 2007. Honestly said, I was a bit disappointed by this year’s presentation. When I arrived at the festival I noticed that fewer restaurants participated in the event compared to last year. Last year there were more than 20 Oahu restaurants participating in the event, including the health food store Down to Earth, which had... [Read more]

The Old Spaghetti Factory at Victoria Ward Center, Honolulu

Address: 1050 Ala Moana Blvd # 1160 Honolulu, 96814 View Map The Old Spaghetti Factory at Victoria Ward Center, Honolulu, is a very popular place in town where you can try different Italian dishes and wine. What’s very special about the Old Spaghetti Factory is the fact that the restaurant looks very fine because it is decorated with old and unique Italian furniture. But still, the prices here are affordable. The price for an entree ranges from $9 to $15, and in addition you get water, salad or soup, and warm bread with butter for FREE! Yes, all that comes to your table for free before they serve your dish. The entrance of The Old Spaghetti Factory. It is located at the end of the center... [Read more]

Shore Bird beach bar and restaurant on Oahu

Address: 2169 Kalia Rd Honolulu, HI 96815 View Map The Shore Bird beach bar and restaurant is located in the Outrigger Reef on the Beach hotel at the western end of Waikiki, near the Sheraton and Halekulani hotels and Fort DeRussy Park. This is a great place to go and chill with friends. The Shore Bird is located directly on Waikiki Beach, so you can see the ocean from almost every table. There is live music every evening, mainly light rock and pop and sometimes authentic Hawaiian music, but not always. Although I really love this place, I don’t like the fact that they don’t have more authentic Hawaiian or slack key guitar music. When you imagine having a drink on the beach of Waikiki... [Read more]
