Haena Beach Park, Kauai

Located on the North Shore of Kauai, this long sandy beach offers very good swimming and snorkeling conditions during the summer due to its calm waters. The Haena Beach Park is a favorite spot for tourists who enjoy camping, picnics, sun bathing, and beach combing. You will need to secure a permit to be able to camp out at the beach park, though.

Unlike some of the beaches in Kauai, there are no protective reefs in Haena. When winter arrives, strong currents pose threats to swimmers. Huge waves crash all the way to the beach. Snorkeling and swimming, therefore, are discouraged during these times.

The Haena Beach Park is located just across the street from Maniniholo Dry Cave, a lava tube that goes into the cliff and which is also popular among tourists. Another nearby attraction is the Cannons surf spot where expert surfers get their fix of some dangerous wave riding. To get to Haena, take Highway 560 west from Princeville. You will find the beach park at Mile Marker 9.
