Donkey Beach, Kauai

Named after nearby plantations where donkeys hauled cane to the fields, the Donkey beach is a hidden haven that is more popular for its perfect seclusion rather than its swimming conditions.

The sandy and rocky shorelines allow for good snorkeling conditions, but you are advised to do so with extreme caution. There are no lifeguards either, so be careful when you swim. The water has rocks that may cause you injuries. There are no picnic or shower facilities in this beach. However, there are grassy areas where you can enjoy a good old fashioned game of soccer or football with your family and friends. If you’re traveling with your lover, then you will enjoy the privacy and seclusion that the beach provides.

Donkey Beach is said to be one of the best nude beaches in Kauai. But since state laws forbid nude beaches, the owner and developer enforced a no nudity policy. The beach is may be reached via Highway 56, seven-tenth of a mile north of Mile Marker 11.You won’t even see the beach from the road. From your parking area, there is a ten minute walk through a pathway in an old sugar cane field.
