mauihorse.jpgThis is a tour for the culture and history buffs. Oheo Stables combines its horseback rides with visits to some of Maui’s best historical sites and interesting narrations of local nature and history. It’s like two Maui activities in one-a nature ride and an educational trip that takes you back in time. the guides are very knowledgeable and friendly, and the rides are tailored to suit riders of all ages and skill levels.

The Historical Early Ride departs at 8:30 and starts at the foothills of the West Maui Mountains. The climb is a little on the steep side but very comfortable, and the views from up high are very rewarding. You’ll get to see Lahaina and its harbor, and the nearby islands of Molokai and Lanai in the distance. Then you’ll ride to the Launipoko Valley, where you’ll be served lunch at an authentic hale’ (Hawaiian house) The ride is two hours long and costs $110 per rider.

The Lunch Ride follows much the same route, but starts at around 10:30. The ride is slower because of the higher temperature, and there are longer rest and meal stops. When you’re tired, you can cool down by the large pond beside the hale-there’s nothing more refreshing than fresh mountain stream water! The trip costs $135 per person and includes a sandwich, chips, dessert, and beverages.

If you’re more of an evening person, the Sunset Ride may be your ideal Maui activity. The check-in times vary according to season, so ask them beforehand to get the exact times. The views here are more spectacular-after all, they say Maui sunsets are among the best in the world! This trip costs $120 for approximately two hours.
