Hike Maui

hikemaui.jpgHike Maui is known locally as the Grandfather of Ecotourism, and it certainly lives up to its name. Established in 1983, it is one of the most experienced hiking companies in the state and consistently one of the most requested. Its guides are fondly described as walking encyclopedias, with their knowledge of the Maui landscape and Maui activities all year round.

The shortest and cheapest hike is the Short Waterfalls Adventure, which takes you to a forested valley in West Maui with a small stream and waterfall. Those who have time to kill can take the Full-day Waterfalls and Rainforest Hike, which includes hiking, swimming, picnics, and a range of other Maui activities.

The most popular hike is the Half-day Waterfalls and Rainforest Hike. Among the highlights are towering waterfalls, large natural pools, a thick bamboo rainforest, and lots of freshwater streams. You can choose between two different valleys to personalize your route. The guides’ personal favorite is the Mountain Ridge Hike. This is a great aerobic workout that takes you to heights of up to 3,000 feet and offers great views of the Maui rainforests.

If you’re after the Haleakala experience, the Haleakala Crater hikes may be best for you. Choose from a four-mile hike or a more intensive eight-mile version, both affording great views of the famous Haleakala peak. Or if you want to see and do it all in one day, take the Kayak, Snorkel and Waterfall Hike-you’ll get to bathe in a 20-foot waterfall, sail the Pacific, come face to face with marine wildlife.
