Lahaina’s Last Resort (cheap hostel on Maui) review with photos
Lahaina’s Last Resort is a cheap hostel on Maui. Rates per night are $49 for a private room with shared bathroom, or $79 for a private room with own bathroom.
I stayed at the hostel for a week and below I point out the pros and cons of the place.
Lahaina’s Last Resort Pros
- Lahaina’s Last Resort is located in a very convenient location, just a couple of minutes walk away from Front Street in Lahaina.
- The hostel is clean and it has A/C in every room.
- You are provided with fresh towels upon arrival.
- There is a microwave and fridge in every room.
- The price is very affordable; you can’t find a better deal in Lahaina so close to Front Street.
- Room Number 1 (the one I stayed in) is located on the quiet side of the house (the opposite side where some of the other rooms are is close to the highway, so there it is noisier).
- There is plenty of storage in the room.
Lahaina’s Last Resort Cons
- Lahaina’s Last Resort also has some residents living in there. One of them is an old guy who looks a bit like a homeless. He often time stays in front of the hostel door smoking and listening to his radio. His radio is so loud that we could not fall asleep at night because of it (the second night we told him to turn it down, which he did, but it was still hearable in our room). And all this even though there are quiet from hours from 9 pm to 9 am.
- There weren’t any hangers in our room where we could hang our towels.
- The house is constructed with a thin wood (not concrete) and it is therefore very easy to hear your neighbors talk in the next room or walk around in the house and hallway. That’s also why we were bothered by the guy’s radio, even though he listened to it outside.
- There is no sign in front of the hostel saying “Lahaina’s Last Resort,” so when you arrive, it may take some time to find the place.
- No coffeemaker in the rooms.
I know it is easy to bad-mouth hostels, so I tried to keep this review as neutral as possible. You decide for yourself if Lahaina’s Last Resort a good place for you to stay at. All in all, I was happy with it considering the low cost. I was out most of the time anyway and basically only spent time there in the evening and at night. Finally, here are some photos from our room and the hostel.
