28th Annual Greek Festival 2008 in Honolulu, Hawaii (including videos)
One of my most favorite and “can’t-wait-for” events in Hawaii is the annual Greek festival that takes place at the end of August at the McCoy Pavilion at Ala Moana Beach Park.
This year’s festival again featured lots of Greek music, Greek food and of course Greek Ouzo that contributed to the good mood of the participants. People from all ages and ethnicities enjoyed and danced under the cheerful sounds of the Greek music group FOTIA, who were here from California to sing and play at this event. Greek music is so unique that even the famous Hawaiian singer Makana came to listen to the guitar and bouzouki sounds of FOTIA.
In addition to FOTIA’s live performances the festival also featured live Greek folklore dances performed by the Nisiotes dancers (see videos below). Even the Partners in Time band played popular Balkan Music, including Bulgarian songs (too bad I missed that, but next year I will make sure I will be there to see them).
The Greek food was pretty good, too. There was Greek salad with feta cheese and Greek olives, moussaka with rich meat sauce for meat lovers, spinakopata for vegetarians, chicken, rice, baklava and more! There were some deli booths where you could buy Greek delicacies as well. I bought some Greek cheese. The taste of it is very close to Bulgarian cheese.
Anyway, enough talk. Check out the videos below! OPA!
And this is Makana at the festival.
