Aloha Friday at Hilton Hawaiian Village’s Tapa Bar in Waikiki (including video)
Last night (Friday evening) we felt like listening to some Hawaiian music, so we decided to go to the Tapa Bar at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. We knew the band Olomana would perform live there that evening. The music started at around 8:30 pm.
We sat down on one of the couches and the first question of the waitress was where we are visiting from. When we told her that we live in Hawaii she was very surprised to hear that and she asked us what we were doing there then. We said it was Friday evening and we just wanted to have some fun out. This answer pleased her curiosity and we ordered one Mai Tai for me and one Chi Chi (a drink with coconut, pineapple and Vodka) for my friend. It seems like the Tapa Bar is visited mainly by tourists and locals don’t go there often. That fact itself made us feel like we were on vacation ourselves.
After we had a couple of sips from our tropical cocktail we were surprised by a sudden loud noise behind us. Then we remembered that it was Friday evening and it was time for the Waikiki Aloha Friday Fireworks show, which takes place right at the Hilton hotel. I had my camcorder with me, so I filmed the fireworks from our table. See below.
After the fireworks show the live music began. The band performed lovely Hawaiian songs – the perfect ending of the busy work week, so to say. I finished my first Mai Tai and did not feel like leaving yet, so I ordered a second one. My friend was still enjoying her first Chi Chi. So we stayed about an hour longer and filmed some of the songs. You can see the below. Sorry for all the people passing by, but our table was exactly on the walkway, so it was inevitable not to film them.
