It was our travel agent who told us about Aliomanu Palms. She had once stayed there with some friends, so we decided to take her up on the suggestion, even though we know she was being paid a commission. We were taking our first Kauai vacation and really didn’t know too much about Hawaii hotels and Kauai hotels in particular.
We were also going with my first cousin, Trent, and his wife, Megan. We had never traveled with them before, but this seemed like the best way to do it. The house has three bedrooms and is off on its own, away from all the hotel and condo complexes. We split the cost, of course, and it worked out better than a hotel. We wanted something different, anyway, as we had stayed at many hotels over the years. The Aliomanu Palms gave us privacy and ammenities. You could see the water from all of the rooms.
The house came stocked, too, with beach stuff: mats, towls and boogie boards. We brought our own masks for snorkeling.
The best thing was that the beach was not very busy at all, so we had the run of the place. Trent and Megan were late sleepers, so we really had the beach to ourselves in the early morning.
It was kind of like staying in an old plantation home. The rooms were large and the outside design reminded me of some of the older homes you still see once in a while in Hawaii.
Trent and Megan liked it, but Trent likes the bigger hotels, so for their next Kauai vacation or stay, they will probably go the hotel route. We looked over the Kaui hotels and we might try something different next time, but we would stay at Aliomanu Palms again.
