Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant is located at the Honolulu Harbor at the Aloha Tower Marketplace. It is located right next to the ocean. From here you can see the coming and departing ships and enjoy beautiful ocean and sunset views (if you come in the right time for it). Sand Island, a peninsula, makes for a nice backdrop.

I have been to Gordon Biersch many times already and what I like is that you can choose your own table rather than being seated by a server. If you want to sit at a nice oceanfront table, go during the week. Fridays and Saturdays are usually busy. Sometimes big groups have parties there too, so it can get really crowded (like it was yesterday).

At Gordon Biersch often times you can enjoy live music played by local bands, and if you want, you can even get up dance.

Overall, Gordon Biersch is really a cool restaurant to check out. It is casual, right on the ocean and near many other Honolulu activities and attractions.

However, the food served Gordon Biersch is not that great anymore as it used to be several years ago. I don’t know if they changed chefs, but some of their dishes recently taste different. To give you an example, last night I wanted to eat something light and I remember I really liked their hummus and goat cheese salad, which I had eaten there several months ago (in March to be precise), so I decided to order it again. Well, I was completely disappointed. The hummus did not taste like hummus at all! I don’t know what it was, and I did not eat it. The goat cheese was so little, I could barely spot it on my plate. It was a total disappointment. But it seems I was not the only one disappointed. My friend ordered the salmon caeser salad, and although the salmon was ok, she said she did not like the salad very much, especially the croutons. She said they did not taste so good. Also, the croutons looked kind of weird – very orange and artificial. I have never seen so orange salad croutons.

This is not the first time that we are disappointed of their food. A couple of years ago they had a really good mahi mahi fish sandwich, which I used to order almost every time I went there until one day when I found out that the sandwich was changed and tasted very spicy. I have not tried it again ever since.

Drinks at Gordon Biersch are good though. They have some popular German beers and many tropical cocktails.

Although I like Gordon Biersch I am not sure if I will go there again soon. I just don’t want to spend money on food that I don’t like. I would rather go to any other beachfront restaurant in Waikiki, such as the Ocean House. Their food has never disappointed me.
