Plan to buy Turtle Bay Resort closer to reality.

If you have been very keen, then you will recall that this issue of buying turtle bay resort started quite along time ago. Turtle Bay resort is one of the most exotic hotels in Oahu. It’s regularly frequented by tourists and other visitors for prefer a luxurious treat during their holiday. Today, state house and senate lawmakers voted and agreed on a bill that would eventually allow the state to get hold of Turtle Bay Resort on the north and preserve it as well.

Currently, private investors are busy negotiating with the Lingle administration over the sale of Turtle bay’s 800 acre land and property including the hotel, golf course and other developed portions of the land.

The idea according to Lingle administration is to use proceeds of the sale to finance the preservation of undeveloped lands of Kawela Bay and the Kahuku point.

Actually the Lingle administration did not even need a bill at all to proceed with the negotiations. However, the administration seems to want support from the state legislatures just as a symbolic show to escape criticisms.

The deal has managed to pass through for final consideration after beating the deadline last night but still needs support for it to be passed next week. Apparently, many senators are worried about the deal. Personally, I feel they have every right to get worried because the details about this purchase have been very sketchy right from the start.

As we expected, the majority democrats want to distance themselves from the legislature and Linda Linlgle on this issue.

Reports say Linda would probably call lawmakers to a special session to consider a purchase deal if one develops on Thursday after Legislature adjourns.

Now this issue depends on how you view it. We have to wait and see if it really happens but something tells me it’s almost a done deal. I wouldn’t mine as long as it won’t affect the level of tourism on Oahu considering the popularity of Turtle Bay Resort.

Till then again.
