How to find a job in Hawaii – Craigslist tips

Well, there are many different ways to get a job in Hawaii. For example, you can try to browse the job adds in the Honolulu Advertiser or Star Bulletin (the two daily local newspapers in Hawaii and both are among the most popular media resources). Or if you prefer you can try an employment agency. There are many local agencies that will be ready to help. However, you should be careful because some of the agencies will subtract a certain percentage from your paychecks as commission because they found you the job. Not all are like though. Look around and you will find agencies that will be willing to help you just for a fraction of your first month’s pay.

The abovementioned methods are popular, but not the most popular job resource. Here in Hawaii the most popular way to get a job is to post or reply to a Craigslist ad. It is free and it really works. Craigslist is popular among locals not just as a job resource, but also a place where you can buy or sell stuff, find an apartment, get to know people and much more. Anyway… back to the Hawaii craigslist jobs. You will see there are a variety of categories you can browse, so pick your specialty and give it a try.

According to Craigslist, at least 80% of the postings are spam, so make sure you reply to a real ad. How to differentiate them from the rest? Well, legitimate companies always leave their company name, phone number and address or website URL. If the posting doesn’t have any background information about the company, or wants you to pay a small amount of money first to get started, you should be cautious. If you see a phone number, you better give them a call because due to the huge popularity of craigslist, local companies receive tons of emails every day, and it can happen that your email is overlooked. That’s why just give the company a call and good luck!

If you are coming from the U.S. mainland or somewhere else, you may want to research and review more information about how to move to Hawaii.
